Meet Preview:
While it is still very early in the season, UMBC finds itself with two athletes who have had a
quick start to the season and sit in the Top 15 National Rankings. Freshmen Mercedes Jackso
enters the meet with the ninth fastest time in the country in the 60 meter dash. Having f inish
second with a personal best and school record 7.50 seconds at the Penn State Relays, she wil
be working the rest of the season to approach the national automatic mark of 7.23 seconds.
Joining her on the National Rankings is Trae Proctor who will look to better his 8.03 effort in t
60 meter hurdles, good enough for fourteenth in the country at this point in the season. Both
athletes will be entered in their main events in hopes of maintaining or bettering their positioas the season begins to heat up over the next couple weeks.
On the distance side of things, look towards the mens 800 meters for some early fireworks,
with IC4A qualifier from last year Andrew Smith taking the line. He will be looking to garner
another berth this year and potentially put up a conference leading mark. Additionally, the
mens 3,000 meters will show off the talents of Todd Cowing and Brandan McGee, who will
both aim for an IC4A berth as well.
The field events will present the debut of Aaron Brooks in both the shot and weight, where h
will get quite a push from Cameron McDearmon who just threw two feet past his best in the
weight this past weekend. In the jumps, three athletes are nearing post season qualifications
with Momodou Drammeh (High Jump), Aboshioma Obemeata (Triple Jump), and Ebonique
Jones (Long Jump) all merely inches away.
Trae Proctor:
Proctor has seen great improvement from year to
year, gradually taking his 60m hurdles time from
8.49 his freshmen year, 8.19 his sophomore year,
and reaching the cusp of the eight second barrierwith an 8.03 this past weekend. Leading the
conference by .21 seconds, he could run away with
another conference title and possible become a
factor in the finals at the IC4A championships.

Meet Recap:
Coming off the long winter break, many athletes showed no signs of rust. Mercedes Jackson picked up where she left
off, bettering her school record to the tune of 7.50 en route to a second place finish. She continued her afternoon with
a #3 All Time Performance and the Conference lead in the 200 meter dash (24.88). Trae Proctor crept closer to the
school record in the 60 meter dash, with a personal best 8.03 in the 60 meter hurdles to tak e the win in that event.Deborah Adelola recorded a personal best in the 500 meter dash en route to a seventh place finish.
In the distance events, TJ Cowing, Tim Jones, and Eric Schuler swept second through fourth in the mile. Mary Katherin
Kulp continued her solid inaugural campaign with a fourth place, #8 All Time effort in the 1,000 meters while senior Ke
Wilson flirted with a personal best time, reaching the line in fourth in the womens 3,000 meters. The mens 4x800
meters relay earned a trip to the IC4A Championships with a fourth place 7:50 clocking. The team consisted of freshm
Charles Bolinger, seniors Roy Jones and Pat Hairfield, and sophomore Andrew Smith.
Highlights from the field events included Cameron McDearmon who finished second in the weight throw with a 57-3.
effort, bettering his previous best by nearly two feet. Ebonique Jones took fourth in the womens Long Jump with an
.25 jump, while Chrissy Robinson was fifth in the shot put with a 41-3 throw. Freshman Monica Hagenauer moved
quickly up the Conference rankings with a 37-1 effort. In the triple jump Aboshioma Obemeata took fourth with a
seasons best 46-7 jump. Momodou Drammeah and Sean Kshmetski both took fifth in the high jump and pole vault
respectively.
Athlete
Spotlights
Cameron McDearmon:
Like almost every high school thrower, McDearmon had
limited to no experience with the weight throw entering
college. He started his career with a 16.12m effort duringhis freshmen year and then quickly progressed to 17.05m
during his sophomore year, good enough for third at the
Conference meet and an IC4A berth. Last weekend, he
quickly took it to the next level with a 17.47m heave and a
second place finish at the Penn State Relays.
Mary Katherine Kulp:
A varsity contributor during the cross country season, Kulp
has shown as the year goes on, she continues to make a
larger impact. Through two low key races she has putherself near the top of the early season America East
leaderboards in both the 800 meters and 1000 meters.
Additionally both efforts put her on the All Time Top Ten
performance list for UMBC. A state qualifier in the 1000
meters in high school, look for her times to drop quickly.
