Growing in Christ together through worship,
fellowship, ministry and stewardship.
Continued on page 2
Dear Good Shepherd,
I hope that this summer has been one of relaxa-
tion and renewal, a well-deserved respite. We are often
so pressed in by our obligations and responsibilities
that it leaves little time for self care. The summer has
always been an opportunity, for young and old, to take
some time and just relax. In my practice I often coun-
sel my patients, especially when life is “complicated,” to
focus on the basics: sleeping, eating regularly, nurtur-
ing the relationships of those most dear, and spiritual
care. We are not machines but complex, unique beings
that require care on multiple fronts. We are more com-
fortable and readily prepared to address the needs of
our physical bodies, often neglecting the spiritual half
of our lives.
I don’t know about you, but for me, my “good” or
“bad” days have more to do with my spiritual health
than any other variable in my life. When I disconnect
from the most basic aspects of my relationship with
Christ, things get more difficult. The alternative is to
solely look to and rely upon the chance and unpredicta-
bility of life on this earth. In that exercise I find we are
almost universally destined for disappointment. Our
greater hope is that each day, building one to the next,
we will align our will to the spirit of Christ that lives in
each of us. As I previewed the readings for this coming
month I was inspired by the New Testament lesson
from Colossians chapter 3.
Page 2
“If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is,
seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not things that
are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Colossians 3:1-3
These instructions call us to practice as we are positioned to Christ. We are not separate; we
are “hidden” in Christ in God, grafted into Him, living where he lives. It is hard for me to believe
this reality, how intimate we are with our Lord and Savior. It is humbling. Something so precious as
this seems worthy of our care and attention.
I pray that each of you had a summer of fun spent with family and friends; leaving you reju-
venated, relaxed, recharged, and eager to continue your journey. I also hope that it gave you the
chance to silence the frustrations of this earthly life by “seeking the things that are above.” We are
not only called to be with Christ we are already positioned near God in Christ. Lean in and listen,
feel the warm presence of God and delight in His will. You will not be disappointed.
Yours in Christ,
Ben Williams, MD - Vestry Member

Summer Music Festival 2019
A big thank you to everyone who contributed to another successful year!
It was a challenge to accommodate our lack of air conditioning for the
first two performances, but everyone rose to the challenge and the Fes-
tival was enjoyed by all who attended.
There were a lot of people working behind the scenes, and I would es-
pecially like to thank Gayle Polk, Sharon Allured, Laura Leach, Mary
Richardson and Barb King for taking the lead with the amazing receptions which followed
each performance. Members of the Altar Guild, Choir and individual parishioners supplied
the delicious food, and Barb King and Mary Richardson did some incredible decorations.
Gina Ardoin, Megan Knox, Donna Little, Ellie Marquez and Jackie Carleton were the smiling
faces which greeted everyone and took tickets. Mary Richardson did an amazing job with
publicity. Fred Sahlmann did the concert introductions and coordinated the piano and or-
gan tuning tasks as well as the moving of the piano from place to place to place. Pam Le-
blanc went over and above in chauffeuring and taking care of our visiting organist. Margie
Collins and Ann Lindsay always took time to help me with innumerable tasks. David Foster
and Mary Fairman are the team that makes it all work smoothly on Tuesday evenings. Of
course, Wendy Isaac Bergin is the festival director who procures the talented musicians for
our enjoyment and makes this happen every year. I look forward to next year – Virginia
Webb.
