STATE TIMES NEWSREASI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University ofAgricultural Sciences andTe c h n o l o g y - J a m m u(SKUAST-J) organised fieldday on maize crop at villageSirah of Reasi District in whichlarge number of farmers of thearea enthuastically participat-ed. The programme was organ-ised under the guidance ofAssociate Director Extension(ADE) of SKUAST-J Dr.R.KArora. The programme wasinitiated by Dr. Banarsi Lal,Scientist and Head of KVK,Reasi with the warm welcomeof the farmers. He started the

programme with the briefobjectives of Front LineDemonstrations (FLDs) espe-cially on maize crop and elabo-rated the scientific technologiesby which farmers can increasethe maize production. Hedemonstrated the hybrid vari-eties of maize laid at farmers'fields by the KVK, Reasi.Farmers were motivated afterobserving the results of hybridmaize fields and were ready toadopt the technologies recom-mended by the KVK. He sug-gested the farmers for the useof maize hybrids and gave adetail view of certain tacticswhich are needed for hybridmaize production. In the pro-gramme many Panchs/Sarpanchs of the area includ-ing SKUAST-J awardeefarmer Tilak Raj were present.The programme was alsoattended by AgriculturalDepartment Extension OfficerBharat Bushen who stressedon the soil testing. Lastly, SoilHealth Cards were also distrib-uted to the farmers. In thisprogramme various quarrieswere asked by the farmerswhich KVK scientistsanswered in a satisfactorilyway. The programme was con-cluded by Dr. Banarsi Lal withthe vote of thanks.

He said the area is prone todisturbances due to borderturmoil and majority of thepopulation is from rural back-ground so the showroomshould deliver high standardfurniture at reasonable rates.

"New business ventures aregood step forward for develop-ment of any area and everynew business establishmentnot only provides job opportu-nities but also caters to needsof people for good qualitymaterial," he added.

Congratulating the propri-etors, the MLA said that goodshowrooms are welcome stepin the rural area and the newfurniture showroom wouldsurely help locals in getting

modern furniture. People of the area would get

quality furniture at R.S. Puraand would save them fromhassle of moving to otherurban locations for furnitureneeds, he added.

According to reportsAkhand Jyoti was lit atRamnagar on first Navratraand then taken to MataPingla Devi Bhawan in acolourful procession enc-hanting Bhajans andKirtans on the eve of secondNavratra.

On the arrival of SacredJyoti at Bhawan, Pujarisperformed Puja with recita-tion of Vedic Mantras andshowering flowers. To wit-ness the Puja of Jyoti, thou-sands of devotees were pres-ent and atmosphere ofBhawan was filled with theJaikaras of Maa Pingla.

STATE TIMES NEWSKATHUA: Deputy ChiefMinister Dr. Nirmal Singh onMonday launched thePradhan Mantri UjjwalaYojana (PMUY) in his homeconstituency Billawar to pro-vide free LPG connections toBPL households. After thelaunch, the Dy CM gave awayfree LPG connection docu-ments to 60 eligible womenbeneficiaries of the area.

Speaking on the occasion,Deputy Chief Minister saidthat the initiative, in line withcreating smokeless villagesacross the State, has come asa moment of pride for thewomen of BPL households."The LPG connection on hername has given a new identi-ty to the woman and now shecan have a smoke-free, lesspolluted, convenient andhealthy environment at herhome" Dy CM said.

He said the scheme is morebeneficial for the womenresiding in hilly areas whogenerally use firewood forcooking which is a difficulttask to procure. "The govern-ment has decided to addresstheir problems and lend thema helping hand by providingthem LPG connections" headded and said early verifica-tion of the beneficiaries will

be ensured to enable them toget supply of cylinders soon.

Highlighting the benefits ofthe scheme, he said that sofar only 60 per cent women inthe country use clean cookingfuel i.e. LPG. The govern-ment has set the target ofproviding 100 percent LPGconnection in every home by2020 under PMUY, heinformed. Deputy CM also

highlighted UJALA, the gov-ernment scheme launchedacross the State for providingLED bulbs at subsidisedrates to the consumers. Hesaid under UJALA schemeconsumers can purchase upto5 LED bulbs at a rate of Rs20 each of 7 or 9 watt byshowing their electricity billor the identity cards. If theconsumers want to purchasemore than five bulbs, chargeswill be Rs 95 per bulb. Thescheme is expected to bringdown the power bills and savethe electricity for the Stateand for the nation as well.

Later in the day, Dy. CMreviewed the progressachieved under various devel-opment projects initiated inBillawar. He directed SDMand Tehsildar Billawar toadhere to the guidelines fortimely completion of theseprojects.

STATE TIMES NEWSKATHUA: All India JatMahasabha (AIJMS) -J andK President Ch ManmohanSingh ( Former Mayor -Jammu) toured Basohli andconducted the meeting of hiscommunity villages Plahi,Ghagrore Jankhar, Rohan,Kharana and Batara toassess ground condition ofJats of Tehsil BasohliDistrict Kathua.

A meeting of the Jats ofthese villages was held atBasohli in which a largenumber of community mem-bers participated and TehsilBody of AIJMS- J and Kwas elected unanimously inwhich Narinder Singh,Mohan Singh and PardeepSingh were elected asPresident, Vice Presidentand Gen. Secretary respec-tively and Chunni Singh -Youth President.

STATE TIMES NEWSUDHAMPUR: The 10thAgricultural census for theyear 2015-16 got underway inUdhampur with the holding ofa training programme for therevenue staff of the district.

The census is being heldunder aegis of FinancialCommissioner Revenue.

At the outset, Joint Director(Planning) from the Office ofFinancial CommissionerRevenue, Z.A. Banday wel-comed the participants andgave a general introduction ofthe 10th Agriculture Censusand its importance in framingof polices, fixing priorities andstrategy for achieving fixedtargets of agriculture sector atthe national level. EightTehsildars, 21 NTs and a largenumber of Patwaris besidesOQs participated in the train-ing programme.

Banday -also designated asthe Technical Officer of theprogramme, briefed the partic-ipating revenue staff about the

importance of the scheme.This was followed by a detailedpresentation on the technical-ities of the scheme by the tech-nical team assisting the JD.

During the meeting, the JDsaid that the agricultural cen-sus is a quinquennial censuswhich was first launched bythe Government of India in theyear 1970-71. This census isconducted in three phasesstarting with complete enu-meration study and followedby two phases based on surveystudy, he added.

The training imparted to therevenue staff included collec-tion of data regarding numberof agricultural operationalholders in the district, landutilisation, tenancy status andirrigation facilities availableetc. At the end, the Patwariswere provided with the Censusmaterials required for furnish-ing information as per theschedule fixed by the Ministryof Agriculture Government ofIndia.

area and carried out a vigor-ous cleaning drive through-out the day, which saw thesupport of all the stakehold-ers involved.

The students also proposedinstallation of dustbins andpublic toilets for the market

UDHAMPUR: Body of a youth was found hanging with atree in Jib locality at Udhampur. Youth identified as RohitKumar son of Diwaka Nath resident of Jib was found hang-ing with a tree in mysterious circumstances nearby to hishouse. On seeing this, local people informed the police whoshifted the youth to District Hospital Udhampur where doc-tors declared him brought dead. Police handed over the bodyof victim to his family after conducting the autopsy and reg-istered a case under section 174 Cr. PC for investigation.
