STATE TIMES NEWS REASI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e- Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) organised field day on maize crop at village Sirah of Reasi District in which large number of farmers of the area enthuastically participat- ed. The programme was organ- ised under the guidance of Associate Director Extension (ADE) of SKUAST-J Dr.R.K Arora. The programme was initiated by Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi with the warm welcome of the farmers. He started the programme with the brief objectives of Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) espe- cially on maize crop and elabo- rated the scientific technologies by which farmers can increase the maize production. He demonstrated the hybrid vari- eties of maize laid at farmers' fields by the KVK, Reasi. Farmers were motivated after observing the results of hybrid maize fields and were ready to adopt the technologies recom- mended by the KVK. He sug- gested the farmers for the use of maize hybrids and gave a detail view of certain tactics which are needed for hybrid maize production. In the pro- gramme many Panchs/ Sarpanchs of the area includ- ing SKUAST-J awardee farmer Tilak Raj were present. The programme was also attended by Agricultural Department Extension Officer Bharat Bushen who stressed on the soil testing. Lastly, Soil Health Cards were also distrib- uted to the farmers. In this programme various quarries were asked by the farmers which KVK scientists answered in a satisfactorily way. The programme was con- cluded by Dr. Banarsi Lal with the vote of thanks. Pura Dr. Gagan Bhagat was also present on the occasion and Mahant Peer Kho Ravi Dass Ji blessed the ceremony. According to reports Akhand Jyoti was lit at Ramnagar on first Navratra and then taken to Mata Pingla Devi Bhawan in a colourful procession enc- hanting Bhajans and Kirtans on the eve of second Navratra. On the arrival of Sacred Jyoti at Bhawan, Pujaris performed Puja with recita- tion of Vedic Mantras and showering flowers. To wit- ness the Puja of Jyoti, thou- sands of devotees were pres- ent and atmosphere of Bhawan was filled with the Jaikaras of Maa Pingla. STATE TIMES NEWS KATHUA: Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh on Monday launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in his home constituency Billawar to pro- vide free LPG connections to BPL households. After the launch, the Dy CM gave away free LPG connection docu- ments to 60 eligible women beneficiaries of the area. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister said that the initiative, in line with creating smokeless villages across the State, has come as a moment of pride for the women of BPL households. "The LPG connection on her name has given a new identi- ty to the woman and now she can have a smoke-free, less polluted, convenient and healthy environment at her home" Dy CM said. He said the scheme is more beneficial for the women residing in hilly areas who generally use firewood for cooking which is a difficult task to procure. "The govern- ment has decided to address their problems and lend them a helping hand by providing them LPG connections" he added and said early verifica- tion of the beneficiaries will be ensured to enable them to get supply of cylinders soon. Highlighting the benefits of the scheme, he said that so far only 60 per cent women in the country use clean cooking fuel i.e. LPG. The govern- ment has set the target of providing 100 percent LPG connection in every home by 2020 under PMUY, he informed. Deputy CM also highlighted UJALA, the gov- ernment scheme launched across the State for providing LED bulbs at subsidised rates to the consumers. He said under UJALA scheme consumers can purchase upto 5 LED bulbs at a rate of Rs 20 each of 7 or 9 watt by showing their electricity bill or the identity cards. If the consumers want to purchase more than five bulbs, charges will be Rs 95 per bulb. The scheme is expected to bring down the power bills and save the electricity for the State and for the nation as well. Later in the day, Dy. CM reviewed the progress achieved under various devel- opment projects initiated in Billawar. He directed SDM and Tehsildar Billawar to adhere to the guidelines for timely completion of these projects. A meeting of the Jats of these villages was held at Basohli in which a large number of community mem- bers participated and Tehsil Body of AIJMS- J and K was elected unanimously in which Narinder Singh, Mohan Singh and Pardeep Singh were elected as President, Vice President and Gen. MLC inaugurates digital X-ray facilities STATE TIMES NEWS UDHAMPUR: The 10th Agricultural census for the year 2015-16 got underway in Udhampur with the holding of a training programme for the revenue staff of the district. The census is being held under aegis of Financial Commissioner Revenue. At the outset, Joint Director (Planning) from the Office of Financial Commissioner Revenue, Z.A. Banday wel- comed the participants and gave a general introduction of the 10th Agriculture Census and its importance in framing of polices, fixing priorities and strategy for achieving fixed targets of agriculture sector at the national level. Eight Tehsildars, 21 NTs and a large number of Patwaris besides OQs participated in the train- ing programme. Banday -also designated as the Technical Officer of the programme, briefed the partic- ipating revenue staff about the importance of the scheme. This was followed by a detailed presentation on the technical- ities of the scheme by the tech- nical team assisting the JD. During the meeting, the JD said that the agricultural cen- sus is a quinquennial census which was first launched by the Government of India in the year 1970-71. This census is conducted in three phases starting with complete enu- meration study and followed by two phases based on survey study, he added. The training imparted to the revenue staff included collec- tion of data regarding number of agricultural operational holders in the district, land utilisation, tenancy status and irrigation facilities available etc. At the end, the Patwaris were provided with the Census materials required for furnish- ing information as per the schedule fixed by the Ministry of Agriculture Government of India. Agricultural census begins STATE TIMES NEWS KATRA: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Department of Architecture and Lan- dscape Design (DoALD), SMDVU organised Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by collabo- rating with the Block Development Authority (Panthal) and the Gram Panchayat (Sirah Kotla). They took up the market area and carried out a vigor- ous cleaning drive through- out the day, which saw the support of all the stakehold- ers involved. The students also proposed installation of dustbins and public toilets for the market road to make the initiative sustainable which has been approved by the BDO offi- cials. After the cleanup, the stu- dents indulged in various activities to spread awareness among the villagers about waste management and prop- er disposal methods through slogan chanting, talking to the shopkeeper's association as well as carrying it furthear into the village through door- to-door propagation. Graffiti were made on uni- versity walls facing the mar- ket to further the awareness drive. A small street play was organised by the students late in the evening after the Ram- Leela, to capture and spread awareness among the vil- lagers who gathered there to witness Ramayan play. STATE TIMES NEWS RAJOURI: In view of esca- lating tension over the LoC due to the surgical strikes and to stay in touch with the resident of border villages, Advocate Vibod Gupta, MLC Rajouri along with Ex- Member Parliament Ch. Talib Hussain and a team of social activists of Rajouri District visited border areas in Androoth, Nogran, Pukharni, Rachwa on Monday which are vulnerable to border shelling and lying near the LoC. During the tour, Gupta and his associates met with the local representatives/ reli- gious leaders and general public of the area and lis- tened to their grievances. Residents of these villages were found more confident due to the step taken by the Modi Government, in response to hidden attacks by the neighboring country. Local Sarpanch apprised Gupta, that people are self- confident and are not ready to shift from their places. Youth found hanging with tree STATE TIMES NEWS UDHAMPUR: Body of a youth was found hanging with a tree in Jib locality at Udhampur. Youth identified as Rohit Kumar son of Diwaka Nath resident of Jib was found hang- ing with a tree in mysterious circumstances nearby to his house. On seeing this, local people informed the police who shifted the youth to District Hospital Udhampur where doc- tors declared him brought dead. Police handed over the body of victim to his family after conducting the autopsy and reg- istered a case under section 174 Cr. PC for investigation. A meeting of the Jats ofthese villages was held atBasohli in which a largenumber of community mem-bers participated and TehsilBody of AIJMS- J and Kwas elected unanimously inwhich Narinder Singh,Mohan Singh and PardeepSingh were elected asPresident, Vice Presidentand Gen. Secretary respec-tively and Chunni Singh -Youth President.

the occasion were very excit-ed to Know that there is aunified All India JatMahasabha-J and K at Stateand Central levels. They saidnone of the Presidents ofSabha ever visited Basohliand were unaware that Jatshave any Sabha. Theythanked State President whovisited Basohli to help themfor their uplift.

STATE TIMES NEWSUDHAMPUR: The 10thAgricultural census for theyear 2015-16 got underway inUdhampur with the holding ofa training programme for therevenue staff of the district.

The census is being heldunder aegis of FinancialCommissioner Revenue.

At the outset, Joint Director(Planning) from the Office ofFinancial CommissionerRevenue, Z.A. Banday wel-comed the participants andgave a general introduction ofthe 10th Agriculture Censusand its importance in framingof polices, fixing priorities andstrategy for achieving fixedtargets of agriculture sector atthe national level. EightTehsildars, 21 NTs and a largenumber of Patwaris besidesOQs participated in the train-ing programme.

Banday -also designated asthe Technical Officer of theprogramme, briefed the partic-ipating revenue staff about the

importance of the scheme.This was followed by a detailedpresentation on the technical-ities of the scheme by the tech-nical team assisting the JD.

During the meeting, the JDsaid that the agricultural cen-sus is a quinquennial censuswhich was first launched bythe Government of India in theyear 1970-71. This census isconducted in three phasesstarting with complete enu-meration study and followedby two phases based on surveystudy, he added.

The training imparted to therevenue staff included collec-tion of data regarding numberof agricultural operationalholders in the district, landutilisation, tenancy status andirrigation facilities availableetc. At the end, the Patwariswere provided with the Censusmaterials required for furnish-ing information as per theschedule fixed by the Ministryof Agriculture Government ofIndia.

area and carried out a vigor-ous cleaning drive through-out the day, which saw thesupport of all the stakehold-ers involved.

The students also proposedinstallation of dustbins andpublic toilets for the market

Graffiti were made on uni-versity walls facing the mar-ket to further the awarenessdrive. A small street play wasorganised by the students latein the evening after the Ram-Leela, to capture and spreadawareness among the vil-lagers who gathered there towitness Ramayan play.

UDHAMPUR: Body of a youth was found hanging with atree in Jib locality at Udhampur. Youth identified as RohitKumar son of Diwaka Nath resident of Jib was found hang-ing with a tree in mysterious circumstances nearby to hishouse. On seeing this, local people informed the police whoshifted the youth to District Hospital Udhampur where doc-tors declared him brought dead. Police handed over the bodyof victim to his family after conducting the autopsy and reg-istered a case under section 174 Cr. PC for investigation.
