The Armor of God

Personal StudyAs we continue to look at Spiritual Warfare, we turn to a very important passage in Ephesians that teaches us how we can equip ourselves for the battle we are in. From the Belt of Truth, Breastplate of Righteousness to the Shield of Faith, Sword of the Spirit and more. God has given us everything we need to defend ourselves and be victorious as we follow Him.

Memorizing Scripture is a valuable discipline for all believers to exercise. Spend a few minutes each day committing this week’s Key Verses to memory.

Key Verse: ‘Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places’. – Ephesians 6:11-12

Key Idea: It’s through growing in our knowledge and obedience that we can stay strong in the midst of spiritual warfare.

1. What have you learned or what insight has God given you this week as you’ve spent time with Him through your daily Bible reading and in prayer? (What has God been teaching you?)

2. What was the most impactful thing you heard from Pastor Jennifer in this weekend’s message? Why do you think it made such an impact on you?

3. Read Ephesians 6:10-17. At the time the book of Ephesians was written, Rome was near the peak of its power. Considering this, why do you think Paul used Roman armor as an illustration of the spiritual battle we are in?

4. Read Ephesians 6:14. How do think the belt of truth is foundational to the armor of God? How does it tie into the other pieces of armor? What does the breastplate protect? Read Ezekiel 36:26. Why do you think the heart is so important to protect? (If you’d like to go deeper, do a Biblical word search on the word ‘heart’)

5. Why is wearing the proper shoes important depending on where you are going or what you are doing? Read Ephesians 6:15. What role do you think the shoes play in the armor of God? Did you know that Roman soldier’s wore cleated sandals that helped them stand their ground? Does knowing this bring new meaning to the idea of standing firm in the battles you will face?

6. Read Ephesians 6:16. What do the arrows in your life look like today? How do you think the shield of faith helps protect you? What are some ways we can deflect more arrows? How can your LIFE Group help?

7. Read Ephesians 6:17 and Romans 12:1-2. Why do you think it’s so important to protect your head? What weapon do we have for the battle? Read Matthew 4:1-11. How did Jesus use the ‘sword’? If Jesus had to use it, how much more important do you think it is for us to learn to use it effectively?

8. Recognizing that we are in an ongoing battle, how can we put on the armor of God daily?

Closing PrayerClose your time together with prayer. Share your prayer requests with one another and commit to praying for one another throughout the week.
