“October: The Month of the Rosary.”
For about the last 500 years in one place or
another the month of October has been dedicated to
recitation of the Rosary. “Medieval piety in the West
developed the prayer of the rosary as a popular sub-
stitute for the Liturgy of the Hours” (CCC2678).
Some people think that Catholic devotion to the Ro-
sary represents worship of Mary. But reality the Ro-
sary meditation revolves around the mystery of
Christ (CCC2708). So when we pray the Rosary we
meditate on the life, death, and resurrection of Christ
all based on Sacred Scripture.
Think about it for a minute. The Prayers
themselves all come from Scripture: The Lord’s
Prayer comes from Matthew, and the Hail Mary
comes from the greetings to the Blessed Mother from
the Angel Gabriel and St. Elizabeth the cousin of
Mary as recorded in the Gospel of Luke. In addition
to the regular prayers, the mysteries on which we
meditate revolve around the life of Christ. The Joy-
ful mysteries recall the early life of Christ as record-
ed in Luke. The Luminous mysteries look into spe-
cific times during the ministry of Our Lord. The Sor-
rowful Mysteries walk us through the Passion and
Death of Jesus, while the Glorious mysteries illumi-
nate the relationship we have with Jesus from the
time of his resurrection to today.
If you want a summary of the life, death, and
resurrection of Jesus then pray the Rosary. Please
consider joining Catholics in 500 years of praying the
Rosary for the rest of October. Through this medita-
tion you will grow closer to Jesus Christ.

Jesucristo.

Last week and this week our topic in the classes was on bullying. In October 2010, the news brought to light several cases of bullying that ended tragically. However, each day many cases of bullying go unreported and children are afraid to go to school. We discussed with the youth that every person is made in the image and likeness of God and deserves to be treated with respect. This is an important issue to discuss with your son/daughter. Be open to allowing your youth to share his/her experience with bullying. Do not be afraid to ask the tough questions about his/her own behavior/attitude when it comes to bullying. Additionally, be a strong support if your son/daughter shares that he/she has been bullied. Help your child to discover his/her true value and discuss ways to go about ending the bullying. Also, this is a great opportunity to discuss cyber-bullying (a form of bullying that takes place via the internet, social networking sites and text messaging.) Questions to ask: What is bullying? Have you ever felt someone has bullied you? Have you ever bullied another student at your school or in the community? How can we as a family be a better example of respecting others?
¿Has sentido alguna vez que alguien te
