Notes from NFBC Music Ministry
Do you praise the Lord? Let me to elaborate: sometimes I find myself saying “Praise You Lord.” (Notice the period at the end) You may be saying ‘That's a problem?’ Well, more and more it occurs to me that I am not expressing adequate praise to the Lord by just saying the words “Praise You Lord”. I think mostly it is because I am not saying what I am praising Him for.
The still, small voice of the Holy Spirit reminds me that God doesn’t want vain repetitions from a sense of duty, but instead He’s look-ing for love, adoration and worship from a thankful heart. He wants my heart in it and not just empty words! He wants to hear me tell Him things like 'I love You Lord with all of my heart, and words can’t ade-quately express what You truly are to me'. It is a lot closer to heartfelt worship when I say praise You Lord because... You alone are God and there is no other, or when I say Praise You Lord for... redeeming me from my sin, since You are the only one that could!
Just in case you ever need them, here are a few reminders of things that you and I can use to express our praise to God: He alone is creator and sustainer – there is no other who can create something from nothing; He has made the heavens and all that is therein, the earth and all that is therein, and the seas and all that is therein and the host of heaven praise Him continually night and day; He loved us so much that He cre-ated us in His image, gave us a free will, died for us on the cross to pay our sin debt and has prepared all who receive Him a dwelling place with Him forever in heaven; He is perfect and righteous in all His ways; He always has been and forever will be; He is completely self-sufficient and doesn’t need anything from us – it is because of His mercy that we live, breathe and have our being; He knows everything, has all power, and is everywhere!
Let’s give the Lord the praise He deserves for who He is and what He’s done!
Making my song (of praise) to Him who is worthy, Danny
