Basic Question about Childhood Obesity:
• How are obesity and overweight determined in a child?
^BMI is calculated using a child’s age, height, weight and gender
Child’s weight status: determined using an age and sex specific
percentile for BMI
Obese: BMI at or above the 95th
percentile
Overweight: BMI at the 85th and below the 95th percentiles
Normal weight: BMI at the 5th and the
85th percentile
Underweight: BMI below the 5th
percentile
• Pre-diabetes and Diabetes
• Heart Disease
• Hypertension
• Hyperlipidermia
• Sleep apnea
• Bone Conditions
• Gastro-Intestinal Diseases
