CONTENT

The mission of the UBRICA ONE is to propose a self-sustaining medical city, located on a 4,000-acre property in Nakuru,

Kenya. It includes:

1. Medical Campus

2. Research District

3. Residential Community

4. Industrial Park

5. Recreational District + Tourist Destination

6. Civic District

GOALS:1. To meet all the requirements of the project statement.

2. To design a space that compliments and blends well

with the surrounding context.

3. A central active corridor which is the heart of the city.

4. To use locally available materials for construction and thus make the project economical.

5. Designing climate responsive spaces.

6. Harvesting available energy sources such as geothermal energy, solar energy and wind energy.

7. Introducing green infrastructure that enriches the soil, water and air quality.

8. Creating tourist destinations which serves as a source of revenue.

CONNECTION +

CONCEPT

UBRICA- 1

"Plus" has various meanings. But the first picture that comes to our mind is its symbolic representation (+), which has 4 connecting ends. We use this property of "Plus" to bring people together.

We create 2 green corridors along the 2 axis of plus:

• An entry portal with trees on either side, to form a boulevard

• It aligns with the visual line between the 2 existing mountains, Mount Suswa and Mount Longonot.

MT. LONGONOT

MT.SUSWA

CONCEPT

UBRICA- 1

• Another green active corridor runs throughout the site horizontally, which connects different districts.

• This corridor is designed to be the "active corridor" with mixed land uses.

CONNECTION +

SHARE +

CONCEPT

UBRICA- 1

“Share” is one of the essential qualities to build a harmonious and prosperous city. We want to encourage this quality among the people. Through our design, we tried to achieve this by creating shared outdoor spaces such as:

• Central park for the entire city.

• A long green corridor that has public spaces such as recreation center, small parks, children play area, well equipped sports complex, urban plazas, theaters, and many other spaces which are shared by all the

districts.

• Healing Gardens with all facilities for everyone to promote their health and interactions with others.

LOCATION

EVIDENCE MAPS

UBRICA- 1

The site is located between 2 volcanos i.e., Mt. Suswa and Mt. Longonot. We have designed the central space without disturbing the visual line between these 2 mountains.

EVIDENCE MAPS

UBRICA- 1

There are several existing water sources in the site. Most of these fall on the central green corridor that we have created.

There are several existing water sources in the site. Most of these fall on the central green corridor that we have created.

EVIDENCE MAPS

UBRICA- 1

We have a water line running along the green corridor underground which further connects to a retention pond which is located at the lowest point.

EVIDENCE MAPS

UBRICA- 1

We also have created a central green corridor which preserves existing green spaces and provide successive green area.
