Audience Profile – Genre: Hip Hop Target Audience: Gender and Age (Hartley’s 7 Subjectivities) and why The age for my Hip hop magazine will be from 16 years and upwards as sometimes hip hop can be explicit and would be inappropriate for individuals below this age. My magazine will contain the latest hip hop news and may be more relevant to older readers which would suggest why I used this age category. This suggests that the stereotypical people being interested and up to date with the stars lifestyle and music. It will be focused more towards the males as more of the artists I will chose will be male making it easier to relate to. Socio-Economic Needs and why: My magazine will target all socio economic groups as does hip hop music in general therefore it is going to be affordable and will help all hip hop fans across the world be able to keep up with the latest news. Hip hop is all about chilling out and relaxing making it aimed towards people from the E category of which is because they are –put under a lot of stress and hip hop is an escape route for them. Katz’ Uses & Gratifications Theory and Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs The classification of my audience would be seen as ‘creators’ as hip hop is all about creativity and finding individuality throughout music whether it is the tracks or the bars being spoke. In accordance to Katz the hip hop community will be ‘informed & educated’ and will also form a ‘personal relationship’ with the artists and will learn about the artists intention for the future. The publication will also target those in the ‘alteration’ category as hip hop has been around for so long and is constantly changing and thriving off others ideas. The readers will come to terms with the artists, music and lifestyles and use it as a form of ‘distraction’ from the everyday problems. Also due to Maslow's theory the hip hop readers will be able to become the ‘Social Climbers’ that they wish to become as they will be aware of the latest fashion and changes straight away therefore updating them before others, this makes the magazine a great purchase as the reader will be ahead of the game.
