You could probably name dozens of big business tycoons with accounting degrees and may think it’s only natural.

However, this list of ten celebrities who studied accounting may surprise you just a little bit. Who knew it was such a

popular degree and would get so many people started?

Quarterback Joe Flacco won Superbowl XLVII MVP honors in 2013 - only five years removed from the University of

Delaware where he was competing for classroom honors while pursuing an accounting degree. Of his choice in

majors, Flacco said, “I [was] going to get my degree and I didn’t want to go to

school to get some cop-out degree. I wanted something real that meant

something.”

Kenny G is internationally known

for his exceptional jazz and musical

genius. Kenny is one of the best-selling

artists of all time and continues to sell

millions of records. However, before Kenny’s musical

career took off, he first mastered the craft of business accounting at the

University of Washington where he graduated magna cum

laude.

Before “all he does is catch touchdown passes,” Hall of Fame wide receiver, Cris Carter was crunching numbers while studying accounting at Ohio State

University. Though he spends most of his time now anchoring “Monday Night Football,” Cris probably

doesn’t fret much during the April tax season.

Ray Romano, from the hit sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, first

studied accounting while enrolled at Queens College in New York City.

Romano went on to win countless awards and Emmy nominations for his comedy performances and ended his

career as the highest-paid TV actor at the time.

After returning from the Korean War, and before becoming a

comedian, Bob Newhart was an accountant. Looking back at his

life, Bob said, “I didn’t say to myself, ‘Oh, here’s a great void

to fill - I’ll be a balding ex-accountant who specializes in low-key humor.’ That’s simply

what I was.”

Before dominating the octagon, Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell was

conquering the art of the balance sheet at

California Polytechnic State University. After

graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in

business accounting, Chuck went on to become

the UFC Light Heavyweight champion with the second most

knockouts in UFC history.

R&B/Pop singer Janet Jackson is a singer, songwriter, dancer, film

producer, author, and once considered adding accountant to

the list. Before becoming the celebrity she is today, Jackson

studied accounting for a time and is frequently quoted having said, "If I wasn't singing, I'd probably be an

accountant."

Before winning awards such as “greatest voice in rock” and “greatest metal vocalist of all

time,” Led Zeppelin’s lead singer was studying to be a chartered accountant. Could

you imagine how different classic rock would be if Plant

hadn’t met up with Jimmy Page and changed career

paths?

Did you know that the Rolling Stones were actually formed while lead singer, Mick Jagger, was studying

accounting and finance at the London School of Economics? Jagger was so good, in fact, he was on

scholarship in the program. He eventually left that dream behind to pursue another when his band was created in

1962.
