T.S Eliot, William Blake, Lord Byron,Daniel Defoe etc. There was a conflict between the intellect and emotions.

18th century was a barren period for drama. Sentimental comedy was a dramatic genre of the 18th

century. It aimed at producing tears rather than laughter.

There was a strong domination of prose in this century. Many accomplish writers of the age wrote essays and

articles. The subjects dealt with in newspapers were

politics,literature, fashion, gossip, entertainment etc.

Daniel defoe was an English trader,journalist and writer. Defoe is among the founders of the English novel. His most famous novel is Robinson Crusoe. Other important works are captain singleton,moll

flanders, colonel jack.

Robinson Crusoe is based on the real life experiences of shipwrecked sailor.

This novel is regarded as the first novel in English language.
