The Coordinate Plane
Terms and Concepts (A)
The coordinate system: formed by the right angle intersection of two number lines. The lines intersect at coordinate 0. Look at example on top of page 58
Terms and Concepts (B)
Origin: the point located at (0, 0) on a coordinate plane.
Y-axis: the vertical number line (north, south)
X-axis: the horizontal number line (east, west)
Coordinate plane: the plane that contains the x and y axis
Terms and Concepts (C)
Ordered pair: used to locate any point on a coordinate plane. The first number gives the x-axis coordinate The second number gives the y-axis coordinate
Quadrant: four regions of the coordinate plane created by the x-axis and y-axis intersection. 1: (+,+) 2: (-,+) 3: (-,-) 4: (+,-)
