Existing ProductIn this existing product I can tell that the designer of this CD cover wanted it to stand out on the shelves to any other cover. The designer has managed to link the name of the album and the design work. This has been done because the name of the Album is “electronic 80’s”, so when designing the main logo for (ministry of sound)the designer made the outline all bright illumines neon lights.

The use of lighting is very important for this album because “ministry of sound” will have wanted their Album cover to stand out compared to any other new albums released. This has been done by using very a very dark coloured background which makes the logo which is in the bright colours stand out a lot more than other competitor Albums.

The designer of this Album cover has used many great athletically pleasing effects. One effect is blur, the designer has made the colours from the neon logo reflect all over the floor and around the logo.

Existing ProductThe designer of this Bastille tour poster has managed to create a poster which is all perfectly matched together. This has been done by using the same font for the full poster.

A orange/gold tint has been added to the photo on this poster, this has been done to make the photography look a lot older that it actually is. This has been done to represent the real album which was released by Bastille.

The location in which this photograph for the poster has been taken on an abandoned road with no other vehicles on it, this is to make it look like the man/boy is running away from civilisation .

The layout for the poster is very simple. It includes the title of the band at the top of the page and then towards the bottom of the poster is where all the important information is such as the location and dates for the tour.

Existing ProductThe designer of this hoodie has completed a very simple design idea which has turned out to look very aesthetically appealing. This has been done by adding the album cover photo to the front of a plain grey hoodie.

The photo which has been added to the hoodie includes very bright colours. This has been done to make it stand out compared to other competitor hoodies.

The picture on the hoodie consists off pink coloured roses, which surround a white a black coloured square with the title of the album in the centre of the square.

the layout for this hoodie has been well thought through, this is so that font used for the logo is position in the centre, this is so that the audience for the chain smokers will be able to easily recognise that the hoodie is merchandise for the chain smokers and will want to buy the hoodie.

Research Analysis• What common features do the researched products have?

– All of the product which I have talked about all have many common features. One feature is that all of the products researched all have very bright coloured elements or parts of the product which makes them stand out to any other similar products.

– Also some of the products which I researched have managed to have one idea and they was able to use that idea all over the product. This has been done on the poster by using the exact same font for the key text pieces on the poster.

– For each existing product there font used fits in perfectly to thw album. For example for the roses album by the chainsmokers they have decided to use a very simpe font which helps to carry on the modern look to merchise hoodie.

– The denotations of my existing products are that they are all music based however for each different product there is a different genre of music.

– The connotation for my existing products changw within each product. My tine tempah excistingproduct shows the power he has because he has a full city in the palm of his hands. Foy my bastileexisting product it shows lonelyness and open spaces.

– The iconnography for the ministry of sound existing product whos an electrical light which is iconnicto the album because the genre of the album is electronic. The light is also a neon light which is iconnic to the album because it is a 80’s genre album and neon lights was very popular in the 80’s.

• What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?

– One aspect which I found in my product experiments and which I will choose to use in my final product is keeping the main idea in use all over all of my products. One way which I could do this by making sure I use the same unique font all over my products, I will do this so that my products all get tied together as one big project.

Research Evaluation

Page 25: 2. fmp research

Research Evaluation• Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the

strengths and weaknesses of each method – Product Research

• There are many different strengths and weakness’s for my product research, one strength is that collect similar images to one which you will be designing allows to take small aspects from each and apply them to your work later on.

• One weakness which I found from completing my product research is that it becomes very time consuming when you have to find a good image which you can explain and talk about in good detail.

– Questionnaires• There are many different strengths and weakness’s for my quantitative questionnaire, one strength is

that it allows you to gather a lot of peoples opinions on what not and what to include in your project. You can ask many different types of questions the get the answer which you desire, for example I asked what your favourite genres are so I can gather a idea of what type of music to include in my work.

• One weakness for completing a questionnaire is that it takes a lot of time produce you survey, then you have to wait longer to gather at good amount of results to start to look at all of the answers.

– Interviews• There are many strengths and weakness's for my qualitative interview. One strength is that you can

ask non qualitative questions so that when you get your answer, you gather a lot of information which can help you when completing your project.

• One weakness for interviews is that some answers can become very long to write out, this mean you end up spending more time on a interview that you expected and may fall behind on other work.

Page 26: 2. fmp research

Research Evaluation– What sort of a response did you get?

• In my survey I gathered mostly mostly sensible and helpful answers, such as for one of my questions asking what is your favourite genre of music I got very helpful answers which has now abled me to choose which types of genres I am going to include in my album. However on a few of the answers to my survey a few people did not answer them truthfully, this made my results hard to look and no pattern could be found.

I used quantitative research in my survey because I gathered answers which gave me exact number and percentages, however some of the answers was not very helpful because they didn't include enough figures and percentages for me to have a complete understanding of the subject. However the answers which was quantitative allowed me to change elements of my plan to design to my work so that my audience will enjoy my products more.

I used qualitative research in my interview, because it allowed me to gather detailed answers which would help my to understand the topic subject. However one problem when using qualitative research is that sometimes the answer to one of your questions can become off topic and irrelevant.

– How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage

• I distributed my survey in two different ways, sending the link via email and posting the link on my Facebook account. Sending the web address via email was a very good idea because I knew that everyone who I sent it to will have given my carefully and helpful answers to each question. However me posting the web address on my Facebook got me loads of my answers to each question however only a few of the answers was relevant for me to use to help me improve on making my products more appealing to me audience.
