ACT Test InformationSpring 2016
What is the ACT?• College Readiness Assessment– Used as a college admission and placement tool as it
measures skills and knowledge needed for success in the first year of college
– Aligned with Common Core State Standards
Why take the ACT?
Attempt every answer – leave nothing blank!
What is on the ACT?• Made up of five sub-tests– English– Mathematics– Reading– Science– Writing
• A student is given a score of 1-36 for each of the first 4 subtests that is then averaged together for a composite (overall) score
• The writing score is not averaged with the other four subtest scores
What is the ACT English Subtest?
• 75 questions about 5 different passages• Timed: 45 minutes• Assesses:– Grammar– Mechanics– Editing and Proofreading
What is the ACT Mathematics Subtest?
• 60 Questions• Timed: 60 minutes• Assesses:– Reasoning Skills– Basic Computational Skills
What is the ACT Reading Subtest?
• 40 Questions• Timed: 35 minutes• Assesses:– Understanding of what is stated directly– Understanding of what is implied
What is the ACT Science Subtest?
• 40 Questions• Timed: 35 Minutes• Assesses:– Interpretation– Analysis – Evaluation– Reasoning– Problem Solving
What is the ACT Writing Subtest?
• 1 Prompt• Timed: 30 Minutes• Assesses:– Taking a position and defending that position

All North Carolina 11th graders will take the ACT on:March 1, 2016.
How can students prepare for the ACT?• Riverside ACT Prep– Feb. 11, 16, 18, 23, and 25th ACT Academy – Tuesday & Thursday from 2:30- 4:30pm, – Sign up at: Riverside.dpsnc.net under ACT • Transportation available
