Etymology
Is built at the foothills of Pangeo and Symbolo mountains , at the boundary of Pieria valley and the fertile plains of Philippi on the traces of Ancient or Down Road.
Its previous name, Pravion , was taken either by the name of a plant (PRASIA) that grew at the nearby marsh (sphagnous of Philippi) or by the latinPRO VIA or PARA VIA
Finally named Eleftheroupoli in 1929 after the ancient seat of the diocese and afterwards bishopric of Eleftheroupoli

The 2nd Primary School ofEleftheroupoli was built in 1906and worked as a Primary Schooland a 6-class High Schoolthroughout the years. When theSecond Word War broke out itstopped working but re-openedafter 1945 and since then it hassheltered thousands of younglearners and teachers.
The school has been playing an
important role in the life of the town of
Eleftheroupoli. It has been a lighthouse
of activity and positive energy setting as
primary aim to meet the educational as
well as the social needs of the widerarea.

Nowadays 157 students attend the classes
and 10 teachers teach all basic subjects
except for foreign languages (English
French and German), Physical Education
and Computers, which are taught by
special teachers. There is also an
incorporation class aiming to help children
with learning difficulties or other learning
problems and a reception class which
offers additional lessons on Language to
children who come from other countries.
There is also an additional teacher of
Special Education who works in a class of
simultaneous support. This year we are a ZEP school ( Zone of Educational Priority)
