What is SEO?
SEO is short for “Search Engine Optimization,” and is generally used to describe efforts to improve search engine rankings for a website.
Someone who does SEO is also often referred to as an SEO.
SEO applies to Google, Yahoo, Bing, and any other search engine. However, most of the time we focus on Google.

Myth #1: All SEO is created equal
Best practices exist, but that doesn’t mean there is always agreement within the SEO community.
SEO for national brands, content producers, and online retail is different than local SEO.
Even within local SEO, strategy can be entirely dependent on the type of business.

Myth #2 SEO is a one-time investment
Algorithms change, and this can have a HUGE impact on your website rankings.
If your website is using outdated, black-hat SEO, it is something you should remedy ASAP.
Content production is important.
Competition changes, and good rankings now does not mean you’re done!
Preventive measures are easier than rebuilding.

Myth #3 SEO is a surefire thing
No one can guarantee results, period.
Success depends on strategy, industry, and most importantly…competition.
SEO is a trial and error process. Knowing what works doesn’t mean it always works!
Manage expectations, nothing happens overnight

Myth #4: SEO is all about keywords
Keyword tags are no longer relevant.
Keyword density misses the point.
While keywords are important to SEO, they should occur naturally throughout your content.
When using keywords, diversify!
On-page optimization is only part of the equation.

Myth #5: Rankings are everything!
Ranking is great, but you still need potential visitors to click-through to your website.
The goal of SEO is to increase website traffic and visitor engagement.
Google Analytics is your friend!
Focus on unique visitors, bounce rates, location, but this is dependent on your business.
