TARGET AUDIENCE Target audience is a specific group of people within the target market of a product which can be narrowed down by certain age group, gender etc. One of the most important aspects of marketing and producing is finding out who your target audience is.My target audience should be teenagers and young adults such as 14-25 year olds, thus people who are going through the rebellious stage as well as able to deal with mature situations which is what rock is about.

CONVENTIONSMise-en-scene: the settings are abnormal and usually appear in deserted settings such as deserted buildings or on ships. The bands usually wear dark smart/casual clothes which usually blend into the background. The lighting is usually natural if shot outside but when the chorus etc is added the lightening gets darker. The camera angles are usually close up to the members and the instruments. There are low angle shots to capture the lead singers and they use long shots to capture the story. The editing is usually to the beat of the song and fading is use to convey a slower tempo. The editing usually create the illusion of emotions such as fast editing is angry while slow is sad.

TWO MUSIC VIDEOS EXAMPLESPanic at the disco: This is Gospel Fall Out Boy: Rat A Tat

Page 7: American rock

PANIC AT THE DISCO: THIS IS GOSPELThe video’s meaning was talking about the songwriter’s partner battle with alcohol addiction which can be quoted,  "I was... angry at Spence when I wrote the song... It's like, "Why won't you let me help you? Why won't you let anyone in? All I want is to make a difference for you so we can rise above this.“The music video follows the shot of the singer throughout the video and keeps at middle shot. There are shots with fighting and things breaking which is a common occurrence in American rock. The only way the video is different, is the use of the colour blue which is pale compared to the more harsher and darker colours commonly used, as well as, the rest of the band isn’t shown just the main singer which is more common in indie pop.

FALL OUT BOY: RAT A TATThe song meaning is to do with religion and dictatorships which is a common theme in political rock bands. The band fall out boy is quite political which is shown through the music video as they use the idea of propaganda etc. The video is edited using short, snappy cuts which keep up with the song fast pace, as well as, the cuts show the footage through different camera lenses which gives it a more edgy and realistic view. It follows the conventions using harsh and dark colours to represent the band. Moreover, it includes all the band and is set in a unusual environment. Furthermore, it contains images of smashing and breaking which links into the rebellious feel that most rock gives out.
