PROLOGUE

The University of Calicut, established in 1968, the second University to be set up in Keralawas opened as a part of the affirmative policy of the government in response to the challengesoffered by the geo-political nature of Malabar. It aimed to bring higher education within thepurview of one and all.

At present the University has 36 post graduate departments and 355 affiliated colleges andis the largest residential cum affiliating University in Kerala. It has slowly but steadily branchedout and now has extension centres at Thrissur, Lakshadweep and Vatakara.

SCHOOL OF DISTANCE EDUCATION (SDE)

The School of Distance Education, one of the major departments of the University wasestablished in 1981. Now it is a major education provider in Kerala as well as in other parts ofIndia and also in gulf countries with an annual enrollment of more than 60,000 students.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

Courses:The undergraduate Programme shall include 4 types of courses, viz Common Course (Code A),Core Courses (Code B), Complementary Courses (Code C), & Open Courses (Code D)

Common courses: In general, every under graduate student shall undergo 10 commoncourses (Total 38 credits) chosen from a group of 14 common courses listed below, forcompleting the programme:

SECTION – 2

DETAILS OF FEE TO BE REMITTED BY UG STUDENTS ALONG WITH THEAPPLICATION AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION TO FIRST YEAR OF THE COURSE

I. Special fee(Inclusive of Application fee etc.) - 1,200/-

II. Course fee for One year (for 2 Semesters) (Only for candidates who opt for Contact Class) :-

a) BA - 1400

b) B.Com - 1600

c) B.Sc. Maths - 1600

d) BBA (Course fee compulsory for all) - 3000

e) BMMC - 40,000

III. Fine - 100/- as service charge from all defaulting candidatesexcept for name and Date of Birth correction

IV. Matriculation Fee - 100/- (for those who are enrolling in CalicutUniversity for the 1st time.)

V. Re-matriculation fee - 150/- (for those who have migrated from CalicutUniversity to other Universities).

VI. Recognition fee - 100/- (for those who have qualified fromBoards/Universities of other states).

MODE OF REMITTANCE OF FEES

1. Jana Sevana Kendrams/Akshayas

2. State Bank of Travancore (via e-chalan) and SBT Internet Banking

Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OEC are eligible for concession from payment of tuitionfees, only if they are not employed in Govt./Quasi Govt./Public Sector services. They shouldapply for fee concession with relevant document in the prescribed application which will besupplied to them later. No fee concession for OBC students. Blind candidates are also eligible forfee concession on production of Medical Certificate.

MARK RELAXATION TO THE OBC/OEC/SC/ST CANDIDATES

On production of caste certificate, OBC/OEC students will be given 5% or 3GPV relaxation to themark required for admission. SC/ST candidates need get only pass for admission.

SECTION - 3

ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR UG COURSES

Application is to be submitted online.

Candidates are requested to read carefully the prospectus for details of courses and feebefore filling the applications.

Application for these coursesare to be submitted throughprogramme centres concerned(see the website)

a) Remit the required application fee/Admission fee/Special fee/Course fees/Registration Fee(which ever is applicable)/Matriculation fee (if applicable)/ Recognition fee (if applicable)and Re-matriculation fee (if applicable)/by way of chalan. (for details see section 1 & 2)

b) Log on to www.universityofcalicut.info with chalan receipt and a recent passport sizephotograph for uploading in JPEG format.

c) Click the link “SDE – Regular UG 2015” to get the online application.d) Fill in all the columns and submit.e) Take the printout of the application.f) Attest the photo in the printout by a Gazetted Officer and forward to the Director, School

of Distance Education, University of Calicut, Calicut University PO, Pin 673635 withfollowing documents.

1) Original chalan receipt for the required fee.2) Original Transfer Certificate3) Original and copies of Qualifying Certificate and marklists.4) Attested copy of SSLC/Equivalent for proof of age and Date of Birth.5) Attested copies of Community Certificate, Nativity Certificate/Income

Certificates in case of SC/ST/OEC candidates. OBC candidates have to forwardcopy of Community Certificate only.

6) Self addressed stamped ( 32/) envelope of size 30 cm x 25 cm (If not availingfacility of spot admission)

7) 3 self addressed stamped ( 5/-) envelope (12 x 5 inches) for those who opt contact class8) Last date without fine: 17.09.2015

With a fine of 100/- : 25.09.2015

Last date of receipt of Printout of applications with necessary documents 30.09.2015

9) Certificate from the authority for relaxation in minimum marks in case of teachers,Govt. employees, University employees etc.

SECTION – 4

ACADEMIC INDUCTION AND CONTACT CLASSES.

An identity card, with the enrolment number will be made available to thestudent who gets registered for the programme. This card should be kept till thecompletion of the course. The students should bring the identity card whenever theycome to the S.D.E. and to attend the contact class. The Study Materials will bemade available through the Website.

The card should be surrendered to get Transfer Certificate on completion ordiscontinuance of the course. If the original card is lost duplicate card will be issuedcollecting a fee of 100/-. Contact Classes (for those who opt) will be throughvarious study centres given in Table – (A). The time table of contact classes will besent to the students well in advance. The classes will be taken by teachers of thecolleges affiliated to the Universities in Kerala and by experts in the concerned field.A candidate can opt for any one of the centres given in the Table – (A). But ifsufficient number of candidates are not available for a course, the nearest contactclass centre will be allotted.
