• Transition from non-profit to for-profit status.– In December 2012.– Initial investment by investor group.
• Acquisition of VSchoolz Inc.– In October 2013.– Key VSchoolz assets include digital curriculum and an excellent Learning
Management System.

• A rigorous academic program aligned with the Calvert K-8 program.– The Calvert Curriculum.
• Full array of courses – Core, AP, foreign language, electives
• A primarily digital program with some supplementary analog content.– Printed learning guides.
• Content delivered to students via a rich, interactive LMS.– Video, audio and collaborative content.
• Live teacher instructional support available for all subject areas.– On a whole-school basis or an a la carte basis.

Key Components of the High School Program
• Three program options:– Calvert Classic – Access to online
content and printed learning guides.– Calvert Plus – Classic with live
instruction in select courses and an ala carte menu of services.
– Calvert Academy – Full school program with a live teacher in every course.
• College prep academics– Not a remedial program.– Guidance/college counseling.
• Full course catalog– Core academic offerings.– Broad selection of electives.– Multiple non-English languages.
• Diploma granting program– Maryland State diploma.
• The Flex-Pace schedule– A defined set of live instructional
sessions delivered weekly through the school year.
– Attendance is voluntary and all sessions are recorded and archived in an online course library for independent self-paced use.
• Live instruction– One live group instructional session
per course per week.– Designated teacher office hours
every week.– Teacher on-call availability via phone,
e-mail and Skype.
• Learn-Use-Teach instructional model– The Calvert instructional model.

• Learn-Use-Teach is the core paradigm of the Calvert academic program.– The foundational element of our overall instructional design.– All grade levels, all content areas.
• A three step instructional process:– Learn – Understand academic content and concepts at a deep level.– Use – Actively interact with and utilize the learned content.– Teach – Share and present the learned content to others.
• Underlying rationale for the Learn-Use-Teach model:– Informed by research and best practices.– Based on active learning.– Derived from inquiry-based learning pedagogy.– Provides for a wide array of assessment methodologies.
