CONTINUOUS COMPRHENSIVE EVALUATION

It is a system of school based evaluation that covers all the aspects of a student’s development.

It emphasizes on two broad objectives.

i. Continuity of evaluation.

ii. Assessment of broad-based learning.Aims to create young adults possessing appropriate

skills and desirable qualities in addition to academic excellence.

2

CCE TIMELINE

2008 HRD Minister Mr. Kapil Sibbal introduced CCE for CBSE schools and made X Board exam

optional.

CCE actually implemented from September 2009 in Class IX.

CCE extended to Class X in 2010.

3

How CCE addresses the shortcomings of the Traditional Education system.

i. Focusses only on scholastic aspects of education.

ii. Declares results as pass or fail.

SOLUTIONS PROVIDED BY CCE

i. Focusses equally on both scholastic and co-scholastic areas of development of the students.

ii. Shifts from marks to grades.

iii. Prevents cut-throat competition among the students.

4

CONTINUOUS COMPRHENSIVE EVALUATION

SCHOLASTIC EVOLUATION

i. Included subject specific areas

ii. Assessment is done on a 9 point grading scale.

iii. Two types of assessments – Formative assessments(FA) and Summative assessments(SA).
