There are many ways to try to visualize the concept of what makes up someone’s culture, but a popular model is to compare one’s culture to an onion.

The four key layers according to Hofstede(well known for his pioneering research on cross-cultural groups and organizations) are Symbols,Rituals, Heroes, and Values. All three layers can be trained and learned through practices except for the core: the inner cultural values (Good vs. Bad , Ugly vs Beautiful).

1)Make a Culture Onion representing your culture.

2)Compare two cultural backgrounds .Do the same thing representing another culture. Does it have things in common with yours? What are the differences that you notice ?
