FUTURE OF

[21st century learning!]

The world is changing. It’s increasingly becomingconnected and digital. This is a fact, and there’s nothing stopping it! With this in mind, how will we prepare our children for an increasingly changing world? How will our schools position our children for success in the 21st century?

At Education Kindling, we are passionately seeking answers to these questions. We believe that children deserves a meaningful education that will help them succeed and achieve their dreams. In addition to becoming better science students, we believe that students should also gain literacy in media, technology, and information. In the quest of learning fractions, they should build entrepreneurship skills. Within the context of learning English and Hekasi, they should be able to think critically, solve problems and work creatively with others. Through their learning, they should be able to learn about themselves, their communities and the world.

These are some 21st century skills that children need for success. Through innovations in learning and technology, we can help provide a 21st century education to children across the Philippines. We invite you to join us in this journey into the future of education.

WHO MET ON FACEBOOK [that’s right, Facebook].

WE ASKED TONS OF QUESTIONS.QUESTIONS LIKE:

Dream and Act the Impossible - Dream and Act Big. Achieving 65% of the impossible is better than 100% of the ordinary.

• Be child-centric. Always ask “how will children benefit from our work?”• Before transforming students, you must be open to transformations yourself.• No matter what, always stay true to yourself and others. • Technology is a learning tool. It will never replace teachers. • No band-aid technology solutions, please. Simply donating laptops is not sustainable either.• Nurture community ownership – it’s key to sustainable impact.• It takes a village to raise a child. Without a doubt, you are a villager.

HOW WE WORK To create meaningful learning experiences, we introduce innovative learning technologies and joyful ways of digital learning. We deploy, design, develop, and engage.

Deploy – We deploy education technologies designed for children’s learning in the developing world. This includes providing solutions towards infrastructure, power, and connectivity.

Design – We design digital learning activities that effectively use learning technologies and enhances the curricula of partner schools.

Develop – We develop the teaching talents of educators. This includes intensive training and support for administrators, local support teams, educators and students regarding use of technologies in classrooms, repair and maintenance, new concepts of digital learning, lesson planning, etc.

Engage - We engage communities including parents and local leaders. We believe that community ownership is an essential ingredient to the sustainability of our work.

To position children for success in the 21st century, we need to rethink, reinvent and innovate education in the Philippines.

EDUCATIONKINDLINGPROGRAMin partnership with…

Imagined and invented by One Laptop Per Child, the XO laptop is a rugged, low-cost, low-power, and connected laptop designed for children’s learning in the developing world. With the XO laptop, children can create movies, take photos, write stories, and access a growing library of digital books. They can learn what they are passionate about as they explore Science, Math, History, English and other learning activities available on the laptop. With the XO laptop, the possibilities for joyful learning are endless.

As part of the EDUCATION KINDLING: OLPC PROGRAM, we have partnered with One Laptop Per Child to bring the XO Laptop to children and classrooms across the Philippines.

If you are interested in partnering with us to bring this program to elementary schools across the Philippines, please contact us at [email protected].

“Learning Technologies such as the XO Laptop is both a window and a tool – a window to the world and a powerful tool for learning.”

IN FOCUS: OUR PILOT

As part of the EDUCATION KINDLING: OLPC PILOT, Education Kindling will deploy 100 XO Laptops and introduce new ways of digital learning to Lubang Integrated and Maligaya Elementary Schools – both on the small island of Lubang, Mindoro. Approximately 95 fourth grade students and 4 educators will participate in the pilot program.

In the classroom, educators and students will use the XO laptops to enhance their learning in English, Math, Science and Makabayan. These are the steps that have been taken to position the pilot program for success:

• We challenged our educators and administrators to answer “what type of schools do we need in the 21st century?”

• 4 educators and administrators attended intensive training on the use of XO laptops and its learning activities, and the integration of 21st

century teaching methodologies into lesson plans.

• A local support team from Lubang was established and trained to provide added technical and educational support.

• Educators, students, and administrators were trained on how to maintain and repair XO laptops.

• A year –long and customized support program that focuses on lesson planning and capacity building was established.

• Education Innovators from around the world were invited to visit and assist our pilot schools.

• It’s about creating a sustainable, educational impact.

IN FOCUS: OUR PILOT

At Education Kindling, we believe that children are teachers too. In the classroom, students are natural teachers to each other. With this in mind, we created a KID TECH SQUAD – a team composed of selected 4th

grade students that will help their teachers teach with the XO Laptop.

They trained alongside our participating teachers, learning how to use the XO Laptop and relevant digital learning activities and tools. So when it comes to digital learning, they will just seek help from the KID TECH SQUAD too!
