EGYPTIAN LITERATURE
The 3 part of the land of Egypt are:
South- Upper part
(symbolized by: Lotus, Vulture, and White Crown)
North- Lower part(symbolized by: papyrus, Red Crown, and Cobra)
West- Death
In the Land of Egypt there are
42 Noam’s with different Capital.
Division of Noam’s :
North (Lower Part) - 20 Noam's South ( Upper Part) - 22 Noam’s
The History of Egyptian Literature:
6000 DC - The citizen of Egypt realize the
important of Nile River. 3100 DC - Their Civilization was started - They become Organized - Narmer/Menes- (Founder) - First Dynasty
2580 DC - Zoser ( built the first
Stone Pyramid at Saqqara) - There is Mummification (
They place it at cannofic Jar) - Second Dynasty 2000 BC - They started to colonize
just to expand their place. - Third Dynasty
1540 BC - The First Female Pharaoh
(Hatu Shepsut) - Her husband is Thutmose I
( her half brother/ her husband) - He ruled Egypt for only 4
years. - Hatu Shepsut became
pharaoh because their child is only an infant.
- It focus on Architecture - Fourth Dynasty
1353 BC - They practice Monotheism - Amenhotep IV ( Their
patron/ natty) - He changed his name as
Akenhaten from the name of God that he want to change as (Athen)
13 Century BC - Ramises ( Pharaoh of
Moses time) - He saved many Israelites
332 BC - Alexander the Great - He tried to conquer the Egypt and
he succeed. 1805 - The start of Modernization in
Egypt - Muhammad Ali- Pharaoh of that
time - They started accepting Foreigners - There’s a “First Port” (Muhammad
Ali created the first port.

5 PERIODS OF EGYPTIAN LITERATURE
The 5 Periods of Egyptian Literature are:
Old Kingdom First Intermediate Kingdom Middle Kingdom New Kingdom Late Period
Old Kingdom - You can read the text on
Pyramid (Pyramid Texts) - Their way of writing here is
“Hierogliphics” - They write their writings
on “Papyrus” - The Subject of their
Literature is more on “Mortuary” Mortuary talks about “Death
and Burial”
First Intermediate Kingdom - They use to write in
Coffin / Casket - They write the
Autobiography of the dead person on their coffin
- Famous work in this period was entitled “The Dialogue of a man with his ba”
Ba – It means “Soul”
Middle Kingdom - They made songs for their
God and Goddesses - They had God and Goddesses
New Kingdom - The prominent subject of
Literature are: Heroism Colonial Military
Late Period - The prominent subject in
this period is “Science” and “Mathematics”
- They tells story about adventures of various magicians
- Some of the famous works in this period are:
“The Tale of Sinuhe” - about a poor man named
Sinuhe and he became rich “An Eloquent Peasants”
