Editing and Camera ShotsThere are a diverse range of shots used throughout this video which all give a strong sense of

cinematography particularly the frames involving shallow depth of field. In general there is a lack of obvious editing and there is no real use of ‘fancy’ effects. This allows the video to appear pure and natural, which is

also reinforced within the main subject of the video who is a young boy.

Shallow depth of field

Natural sun lighting creates silhouettes

Creative shots/ framing, using shallow depth of field behind an object to create the illusion that the audience is spying on the subject

Beautiful, cinematic shots using natural lighting and settings.

NarrativeLike many videos we have analysed, this video displays the conventional

passing of time from dawn to dusk, conveying this through the use of natural lighting. Rather than being an ambiguous, abstract video, there is a strong narrative line to follow. The artist of the song is not involved in the video,

replacing him is a young child around the age of 8 years old who is attempting to win the heart of an admirer. There is no direct mode of address or singing

along to the soundtrack involved which is conventional for a video in this style. In terms of genre it is slightly unconventional to film on a beach on a

grey day without spectacular sunshine and pleasant blue skies however this adds to the unusual indie short film style to the video and the realistic appeal.

RepresentationThere is no explicit content in this video which is a common convention we found in the more high end famous videos. The representation of the young boy is entirely innocent. The child is extremely

care free and is often shot dancing and playing. It is unconventional for a child to be the main protagonist of a music video. It seems that the decision behind this casting was to capture the innocence of the song which can successfully be achieved through the use of a child actor, who

comes across as extremely unacted and natural throughout the whole video.
