What’s it about ???

- It’s about how the British society grew larger by immigrants coming from all the different corners of the world!

- It has quite a happy tone and the writer shows he is happy about people coming to England.

What techniques were used?

Metaphors- The most obvious technique is the use of

metaphors, he treats all the immigrants like ingredients that have to be handled with care and treated equally.

- “Sprinkle some fresh Indians, Malaysians, Bosnians”

How is this different to Slough?

- This is different to “Slough” because slough has a very negative feeling and “The British” has a very positive feeling about British society, in “slough” the writer feels that his world is falling apart.

- However in “the British” the poet seems to be proud that the world is changing into a new era of unity and peace because of this country!
