Question 1 – In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products

In a horror comedy I expect to see abandoned rooms usually dark rooms or scenes set at night time that are quiet to create a horror atmosphere. As well as sudden music that starts off quiet but slowly or suddenly gets louder.

For comedy areas I expect to see young adults or characters that are full of themselves, worry about little things or are completely useless, such as a girl who is always concentrating on her looks. Music does not make something funny so music on comedy scenes I do not expect to see. For the acting I expect to see people suddenly walking into things or are scared by their friends who you can clearly see in the scene sneaking up to them.

For horror acting scenes I expect to see slow camera movements and close ups to see characters expressions. Fast camera shots that jump to other angles or scenes I also expect to see for horror.

For my media product I have included slow camera movements and close ups to show the audience expressions and a chase scene. I have also included quiet music where it is included as well as sudden loud music when needed to make scenes more scary. I have also included a wide range of characters to make the opening funny such as a crazy doctor and a girl who only cares for herself and her looks.

Question 3 – What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why

I think Rogue pictures might distribute my media product. Rogue pictures have produced films such as Shawn of the dead, Seed of chucky and American pie which are horror or comedy films or both. These films have been successful through the years and are still popular. Most horror comedy films have been about teenagers getting drunk and killed one by one.

My media product contains teenagers and adults as the main characters which are not human but for one. This is a change from other horror comedy films. With mine being different from other horror comedy films, the company would get a range of audience due to a film being different from other films with the same genre with the characters and story line. Everyone likes a change once in a while so a change in horror comedy for a one off could be what the audience is looking for.

In horror comedy films the murder has been a male wearing a mask in most cases. My murder is a young girl who does not wear a mask or hides the fact that she is a murder as well as being friends with a character she wants to kill.In all horror films the person targeted is always in a gang and slowly separated. My characters appear one by one and come into a group. I have also kept the common woods scene as my setting so my film fits in with other horror comedy films but mixed around in certain areas to things you wouldn’t really expect to see in a horror comedy.

Question 4 – Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience I am targeting for my media product are young adults to adults because of the horror context which is not suitable for young children and young teenagers. Young adults though are suitable for the blood and small amounts of swearing scenes as well as enjoying some comedy.

Question 5 – How did you attract/address your audience?

I have attracted my audience by beginning with a voice over which tells the audience part of the story and to get the audience to listen and get involved in the film. To keep their attention I added music and other voices where needed so they do not lose interest with just the voice over and silence.

Question 6 – What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Question 7 - Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I have learnt many media techniques while in the process of my media product and also finishing the work. I understand more easily which camera movements are best used for certain actions and when to change to another angle or camera movement. Learned new camera movements and angles and how they are different from other camera movement and angles.Lastly I have learned how hard it can be to connect scenes together without confusing the audience but also how easy it can be to connect some scenes with others to make sense.
