Camera Shots

Establishing shot shows that the scene is set 26 years into the future on a distant alien planet

There is a close-up used when the camera zooms in on the main characters face to show what emotions he’s feeling as he’s walking round the abandoned cave

There was a longshot used when you first see the main character as you want to be able to see the entire character and judge him based on the first impressions it gives

Editing

The music that the character is listening to contrasts with the setting of the film as he is listening to 1980’s music whereas the film is set years into the future

Mise en Scene

The object that the main character uses throughout the opening contrasts with the setting of the film as he is shown to be using a Walkman music player

Outfit worn by the main character isn’t stereotypically what you would associate with the hero of a film as the is depicted as being a bad guy as the mask that he wears has got red eyes

Lighting

The lighting used throughout the opening depicts the main character to be a bad guy whereas his personality reflects something completely different as his personality shows him to be fun-loving

Whilst the main character has his mask on, the lighting is very dark which connotes towards him being a bad guy but then the mask is removed and you are able to view the main characters face, the lighting then begins to lighten as you start to see the main character as a good guy

Special Effects

Special Effects are used when he uses holograms to be able to view a 3D map of the area he is exploring. There is also special effects used when the lights on his helmet glow an eerie red which indicates and connotes towards the fact that he’s a bad guy

Jurassic Park

Lighting

Lighting is used when they are trying to show the raptor inside the cage but use it so that the outline of the raptor is highlighted by the lights shining through the cage

Lighting is also used when they are waiting for the raptor cage to be delivered. The lighting is used to highlight the expressions and emotions on the workers faces

Mise en Scene

The environment that they are in during the opening scene connotes that they are set in a tropical setting due to the exotic trees and shrubbery that are placed throughout the background

The Apparel that the workers and rangers are wearing connotes that they job they are doing is rather dangerous as they all appear to be wearing a bit of armour and some are seen carrying weapons such as Tasers and rifles

Editing

Editing is used rather well when the camera shots are edited so that whilst they are waiting for the raptor to be delivered, the shots are rather slow-paced with the camera angles changing at a slow pace, but when the raptor is delivered and it tries to escape, the camera shots are suddenly fast paced and are edited so that the camera changes shots at a fast pace

Shot types/Distances

There is an extreme close-up used when the man is about to be eaten by the raptor. The camera is zoomed in on his hand as it shows his hand slowly slipping from the ranger’s arms. This was used to show the emotion of the ranger and the other man and could be used to symbolise the hopelessness of the situation

There is an establishing shot used when the camera zooms out so you can clearly view the entire scene. You can clearly see a vacant cage with a load of spotlights shining around. This connotes towards the cage looking like a prison that is about to harbour a really dangerous threat

There is a close-up used on the characters faces as to show the emotions that they are worried and terrified by the situation that they are in. Close ups are mainly used to show emotion and it was used effectively as you can see what emotion

There is a camera shot used where it is from the perspective of a raptor. This was used effectively as the camera moved as it was alive as it was shaking and bobbing whilst it was staring at the workers. This was used to show the perspective of the raptor to hint towards what could be in the cage

Star Wars

Lighting

The lighting suggests that that the scene would be set in space due to the lighting being extremely dark due to space normally being black with the only light sources coming from stars and planets. Once they are on the ship you can see that the films will be set in a futuristic setting as all the walls are incredibly shiny and clean with white shiny walls

Editing

The scene is edited so that during the beginning of the star wars opening, you can see that the scene will be set in space due to the background having stars and planets. The scene is also edited so that 2 spaceships can be seen flying through space. You

Mise en Scene

Once inside the spaceship the scenery also indicates towards the film being a sci-fi as the walls looks very futuristic. The clothing and props that the characters are holding also indicate that they are from the future

Shot Types/Distances

There is an establishing shot used when the two ships come into camera. This is used so that you are able to tell where the opening scene will be. There is also a close-up used on one of the soldier’s

faces so you can see what they are feeling during this scene. There is also a low shot used when Darth Vader boards the ship. This is used to make him look bigger than what he actually is. This makes him look powerful and evil as his Armor/clothes contrast with the whiteness of the ship

Editing

Editing is used when you can see the two ships chasing each other. This editing is used to show that the two ships are in flight and that they are chasing each other due to the bigger one slowly catching up to the smaller ship

John wick opening-

Lighting- barely any lighting in the opening the darkness of the scene represents the overall dark tone of the film and the darkness of the main character john. Red lights standing out in the scene, represent the danger that the character is in. Light from the phone is bright , represents the happy times that has been recorded, could also represent heaven, where john’s wife is.

Narrative- news report in the background, shows the world is carrying on around the main character, shows the event isn’t world ending. Beaten up character shows there will be dangerous fights in the film. Wife recording on phone shows wife has died and john has to cope without her , John lying on the floor shows he doesn’t have much energy left to keep on fighting, these may be his last days.

Editing- slow paced editing when john has his phone out to tell the story of him and his wife. Slow editing all the way through relates to the tiredness of john in the scene, he doesn’t have the energy for fast paced action anymore.

Camera shots- extreme long shot shown while john is on the floor passed out, it shows that there is nobody around him, this depicts john’s isolation in the film and shows that he is alone in the film. There is a close up shot of johns face while he is looking at the video on the phone this is to show the emotion on his face which shows the viewer john’s emotional attachment to the woman in the video or the video itself. There is also a close up shot when he is on the floor passing out, this shows the emotion on his face, making the viewer see that john has given up or lost hope , he also looks like he is dying thanks to the blood and bruises on him, this could foreshadow the ending to the film.

Mise en scene- The darkness of the main characters outfit reflects his dark personality; it also shows that he is not a hero in this movie. The industrial area in the background shows the viewers that the movie takes place.

Special effects- the blood all around john shows he is not above fighting people when he has to, and shows he is not a peaceful person, it also connotes the darkness of his character by showing the viewer straight away that he is a violent man.
