The camera is following the life of this girl, which here we can see is half real and half non realistic. It has no dialogue but just instead has jolly music playing in the background. She seems to be walking down her neighbourhood. Going into the ‘drawings’ could show she is in two minds about something, and it doesn’t feel real to her. As she passes into the drawings, the music becomes very upbeat with a new high pitch instrument playing, which could show the kind of person she is in her head.

Here we have the movie title next to the girl, which tells the audience that she is the main character. She looks like a normal teenage girl, apart from the fact that she is carrying this huge drink which she is constantly sipping, which could show that she is extremely thirsty from doing exercise, or maybe she needs to keep drinking it.

She passes shops and here there is a sale on baby toys and clothes. This could be foreshadowing later events in the movie, especially as her facial expression here doesn’t look very happy, from her looking down with quite a sad expression. The bike could also be representing youth, and maybe the fact that even though she has so long to travel by foot, she decides to walk so maybe she is trying to slow the process of getting to her final destination.

She looks up to the sky which could show her being deep in thought and worried. She is also alone which could show what she is like as a character. The pacing of the opening is fairly slow, showing her full journey through the streets and being continuous editing, which makes the story easier to follow and the subtle hints in this beginning to stand out more for what the film is about. From all the dead leaves falling, this shows the season as autumn, which is thought of as the time where everything changes, and this could show things changing for Juno.

There is a reoccurring theme of these boys running past her, and the fact that they are all boys could link to the idea of love or attraction. By balancing on what she is walking with her arms, it shows that she is childish and so might not always think through everything she does properly. Also the colour of her jumper and the boys tops are all a dark red, which could connote an upcoming danger or fear, or even love/romance.

Here we see Juno walking from a colourful place into a black and white. This constant changing in surroundings, from realistic, to cartoon and colourful to black and white could show the progression of her feelings in this journey of hers, and that she is now looking on the dark side of everything and she might be worried or scared about something. The music throughout also is talking about a romance, for this person wanting someone to stay with them.

She’s now back to her original life-like self, and is walking into a ‘drugs’ store, otherwise known as a pharmacy. This linking to her drinking a huge drink all the way there could represent her needing to use the toilet but specifically for the purpose of something from a pharmacy, seeing as she passed many different shops- a pregnancy test.
