FILM TRAILER INITIAL IDEAS

QUESTIONNAIRE

Questionnaire Participants■ There were 6 participants in the questionnaire. All of the participants

were girls which I thought was appropriate due to Ella and I’s film trailer target audience being skewed towards women. All of the participants were aged 16-18 which is slightly younger than our target audience but they still constitute as a large portion of our audience. Our target audience is 18-25 as we believed this age group would be more interested in the topics our film trailer explores as opposed to younger age groups.

Q1. Which genre are you most likely to watch?

Horror Chick Flick Social Realist Drama

There was an equal amount of people that were interested in each genre, 2 people voted for each genre. This statistic wasn’t surprising because Social Realism Drama isn’t exactly a widely heard of or popular genre of film.

Q2. Which is your favourite idea?

Horror Chick Flick Social Realism Drama

I showed each person the plotline of each of Ella and I’s ideas where they then judged which their favourite was. The Chick Flick genre was the least popular and the Horror the most popular with a young female demographic which didn’t conform to stereotype of women.

Q3. What do you like about your favourite?HorrorIt has an unexpected plot twist which is a great feature to have in horror movies. The plotline has hints of drama and it keeps you guessing. It’s my favourite because from a filming perspective, I think it would be the easiest to do well.

The feedback the Horror genre received was unsurprising as the plotline does include quite an interesting plot twist which would be very interesting to watch as a young female audience. It’s a horror that, removes itself from the typical supernatural Horror of the 21st Century and emerges itself in themes of revenge and sheer fear.

Q3.

Chick FlickIt sounds like a true chick flick and feel good film.

There wasn’t much feedback for the Chick Flick genre purely because it was the least popular genre. However, the feedback that was received showed that it wasn’t a favourite because it was a thought-provoking film but because it would simply make you ‘feel good’.

Q3.

Social Realism DramaIt sounds like a really interesting dynamic that I haven’t seen explored in a film yet.It leaves you guessing as to what happens, does love beat adversity? It was a shame that the Social Realism Drama plotline wasn’t my participants favourite genre. However, in reference to the type of participants involved, it is not crucial that it isn’t their favourite because they were not the specific target audience.

Q4. What could we alter about the plotline of the Social Realism Drama for you to watch it if you weren’t thinking about watching it previously?

1. If the characters were our age (16-18), I’d find it more relatable. I like to be able to relate with the characters in a film.2. If there was a more profound plot twist, like a death for example, then I’d find it more intriguing to watch. 3. If there was another proper plot twist, apart from of the girls having a boyfriend. I think another plot twist like the Horror idea would make me want to watch it more.

Q4. My Responses to Potential Plotline Alterations1. Ella and I were already planning on having the characters within the 16-18 age bracket, especially seeing as the actors we’d be using would be this age too. I failed to mention this in the plotline for our Social Realism Drama and so the questionnaire participants were unaware.2 & 3. Before the Social Realism Drama idea evolved into what it is now, I originally suggested a death take place in the film, suggesting either the central protagonist’s mother/best friend or love interest. However, that idea, along with many, faded into the background of a culmination of ideas. After much discussion, we eventually decided that the central protagonists love interest having a boyfriend would act as the minor plot twist and the subject of adversity the central protagonist must face.
