Task 1) FMP PitchOutline

Now you have a clear idea of how you will communicate the clients message to their audience you need to get it signed off by the client. If they’re happy with your vision for the project and your plans then you will be able to move forward to filming, but if not its back to the drawing board.

To persuade the client you will need to prepare and pitch them your final proposal, working independently and to near-professional standards. Your final proposal should reflect your planning and should clearly meet the clients objectives in an engaging and interesting way, communicating their message with creativity and flair.

Tasks

Plan your pitch – what do you need to communicate to the client, and in what order? Write a final proposal which outlines the key information they will need (see the document FMP

proposal) Prepare a powerpoint or Keynote presentation Gather your pre-production planning together in a presentable way. Pitch your idea to the client Get their feedback on the client feedback form Get them to sign off your final proposal.

Task 2) Pre-production planningOutline

You should now have a clear idea of what your videos message is, and what your clients aims and objectives for the project are. You must now begin to prepare thorough and comprehensive pre-production documents for your video to near-professional standards, showing creativity and flair and working independently at all times.

To do this you will need to originate, develop and research ideas for your video (using a variety of research methods skilfully) before beginning your logistical and creative planning.

Tasks

Conduct primary & secondary research using a variety of appropriate techniques (such as questionnaires, interviews etc..) skilfully, summing this up in a research report.

Analyse your notes from your initial meeting to identify potential ideas for filming Brainstorm different ideas for your film, thinking about potential contributors, filming locations,

shots, interviews etc... Undertake creative planning, coming up with scripts, storyboards, moodboards, shot lists etc... Undertake logistical planning, planning for time, equipment needs, gaining filming permission

and consent to use peoples images & audio Revise your initial proposal as your ideas develop. Reflect on how your planning is going in your weekly production diary

Evidence

Annotated notes of meetings / communications with client Brainstorms of initial ideas Research portfolio (including primary and secondary research) Summative research report Production milestones Production schedule Storyboards / moodboards Script Location recce & risk assessments (for all potential locations) Run order Call sheet Equipment booking forms Studio booking forms

Consent forms Budgets Filming permissions Initial proposal, and any revised drafts Weekly production diary, clearly explaining what you have done each week, why you’ve done it,

how it went, what you’d do differently next time. You should use this as a chance to explain how & why your ideas have developed over time.

How to submit your work

You can choose to submit your pre-production planning by either (a) handing in a hard copy of your pre-production work in a folder, or (b) turning in a zipped folder of all your pre-production work (including your production diary) to the Moodle task FMP Pre-Production Planning.

Task 3) Pre-Production Evaluation Outline

You should now reflect on how you conducted and managed the pre-production phase of your video. How effectively did you manage the production process? How did you monitor your progress? How did you review your work, and why did you need to revise it? How did you manage personnel, time, resources and risk? What problems did you encounter, and why?

Being able to critically evaluate yourself is a key skill to gaining a deeper understanding of the pre-production process. You should use the reflective cycle below to help you explain and evaluate each stage of the pre-production process.

Tasks

Think about the different elements of planning and conducting pre-production;

- Identifying and booking resources (such as equipment, studios etc...) - Identifying and securing crew personnel - Identifying and securing potential locations - Identifying potential contributors and contacting them- Health and safety (risk assessments & recces)- Legal documentation (filming permission and consent forms)

2. WHY did you do it?

3. HOW successfully did

it go?

Task 4) Production Outline

Working independently you must now produce and direct your video, managing the production process effectively and working to high professional standards. You must use a variety of filming techniques and technology (camera, tripod, microphone, grip equipment, lighting etc...) to direct a video to near professional standards which shows creativity and flair.

Once you have wrapped filming you should reflect on how effectively you conducted the production phase of the project by writing an in depth, critical evaluation. Being able to critically evaluate yourself is a key skill to gaining a deeper understanding of the production process. You should use the reflective cycle below to help you explain and evaluate each stage of the pre-production process.

Think about the different skills and knowledge you have had to use during your videos production including;

Project management skills (time management, risk management, managing a team, monitoring progress, adapting to crisis and contingency planning etc...)

1. WHAT did you do?

2. WHY did you do it?

Task 5) EditingOutline

You have your rushes, the filming is done (if you planned effectively) and now you need to edit it all together.

Before you begin editing you will need to plan how you will edit your video, either through clarifying the editing style, tone, rhythm etc... with the client, or by creating an editing proposal.

You will need to use post production technology (FCP 7) to edit your video to near professional standards, show creativity and flair and working independently. Once you have finished your final cut you will need to export the video in an appropriate format, create a simple menu in DVD studio Pro and burn 2 seperate copies of your video to DVD.

You will then need to evaluate your experiences of post-production by writing an in depth reflective evaluation. Being able to critically evaluate yourself is a key skill to gaining a deeper understanding of the production process. You should use the reflective cycle below to help you explain and evaluate each stage of the pre-production process.

When writing your editing evaluation you will want to explain your experiences of all of the steps listed beneath in the section headed “tasks”. You will need to get lots of screenshots of your editing in FCP7 to

1. WHAT did you do?

2. WHY did you do it?

3. HOW successfully did

it go?

4. WHY was it successful/

unsucessful?

highlight your evaluation (including how you label clips, how you set the start and end point, marking them as good etc....).

Tasks

- Clarify the style of editing which would be appropriate with the client (through emails, meetings etc...)

- Mark up scripts and storyboards with editing ideas (such as transitions, editing rhythm, music or audio ideas)

- Create an editing proposal (see the document editing proposal)- Label your MiniDV tapes in an intelligent way, and identify where you will store them safely- Log and capture your clips - Label clips and bins intelligently - Mark up good clips in the project bin- Make a note of any unusable clips in the clips notes - Trim start and end points of clips - Cut together sequences of video on the timeline - Apply transitions and video effects (where appropriate)- Create titles - Add soundtrack and audio - Export your video in an appropriate format - Write a detailed evaluation of your experiences of editing your FMP.
