TOPICFORMWORK, CENTERING
& SCAFFOLDING

Formwork is a mould including all supporting structure , used to shape and support the concrete until it attains sufficient strength to carry its own weight.
It should be capable of carrying all imposed dead & live loads apart from its own weight.
FORMWORK
Formwork is commonly made of
* Steel * Timber
STEEL FORMWORK
TIMBER FORMWORK
Formwork has been in use since the beginning of concrete construction.
New materials such as steel, plastics & fibreglass are used in formwork.
Greater attention is being given to the design, fabrication, erection, and dismantling of formwork
Formwork is designed according to the ACI document SP-4.
FIBREGLASS FORMWORK
It should be water tight.
It should be strong.
It should be according to the size of member.
Its contact surface should be uniform.
* Qualities of formwork
The material should be cheap and reusable.
Swelling and shrinkage should be minimum.
Deflection should be minimum.
Light in weight , so that easy to transfer.
* Requirement of Formwork
Wall * Chimneys Column * Water tank Slabs & Beams * Cooling
towers Stairs etc…….
* Uses of Formwork
A temporary elevated platform to stand safely and carry on the construction.
Provide platform to keep necessary materials of construction , tools such as bricks, mortar, trowel, plumb bob, etc…
Scaffolding is also needed for the repairs or even demolition of a building.
