Why Foundation Diploma in Art & Design?

What is it? • A one year Further Education course which

allows you to experiment and develop your skills in a range of specialisms. • A bridge between school and degree level• A supportive environment in which to build a

strong portfolio• Supports you in your application to your

chosen degreeDo I have to do a Foundation Diploma? • We strongly recommend that students from

A Level undertake a Foundation Diploma to prepare for undergraduate study.

The Progression Centre

The Facts• You’ll be based at the Progression Centre, Wilson

Road, Camberwell. A dedicated centre focused on supporting you in progressing to Higher Education.• You’ll have access to a team of excellent teaching

staff and dedicated Foundation technicians. Bringing together Art & Design expertise from across the UAL colleges.• There will be around 600 full-time students on the

course (Home/EU 350 & Intl 250).• Students come from over 20 different countries from

all over the world.• The course runs September – May• Access to studio space Mon – Fri 8am – 8pm during

term time.

Resources and Facilities

• All students have space to work in, this will change throughout the course as you progress from part 1 to part 2 and work alongside students in your specialist area.

• There are 3 workshops in the Progression Centre – 3D, Digital Media and Printmaking.

• Workshops are open Mon-Fri 10:00 – 4:30 with the exception of Wednesday when they are closed for maintenance.

• You also have access to the library, the Central Loan store and the Cafe at the Peckham Road site.

Digital Media Suite

•Supports students in realising their ideas through imaging, sound, film and animation. •iMacs, stop frame animation stations with lights and cameras, sound station, A3 and A4 scanners.•Software includes Adobe Creative Suite CS6, Final Cut Pro, iStop Motion, iLife, Soundrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro and Google Sketch Up•One-to-one technical support sessions can be booked in advance.

Entry Requirements

•Portfolio of work•1 GCE A Level / AVCE / BTEC National Diploma / GNVQ Advanced Diploma supported by 3 GCSEs grade C or above•International Baccalaureate; students need to achieve at least 3 certificates - 2 at Higher Level and 1 at Standard Level - with a minimum grade 4 in each certificate•Alternative qualifications and experience will also be taken into consideration•IELTS Academic Test for UKVI level 5.0 or above if English isn’t an applicant’s first language, with at least 4.0 in reading, writing, listening and speaking .

The Application Process

• You apply directly to the college online via our website from November.• You will need to write a supporting statement which should be approximately 500

words.• You will be invited to a portfolio reviews between February and March. You do not

have an in person interview.• You will hear the outcome of your portfolio review via email by the end of March.• You can only apply to one UAL Foundation Diploma course, outside of the UAL you

can apply to as many as you wish.• You can apply to both Undergraduate and Foundation Diploma courses in the same

cycle.• The deadline for applying is Tuesday 31st January 2017 at 12:00 midday.

Student Support Services

•Student advisers are money and immigration specialists. They provide guidance on how to fund costs related to studying in the UK, and can assist International students with enquiries about visas and other immigration matters.

•Counsellors, health advisers and chaplains support the health and well-being of students by listening to them and helping them with issues and concerns such as depression, anxiety and illness, and by providing pastoral and spiritual care.

•Disability advisers, dyslexia coordinators and dyslexia support tutors support the University’s commitment to inclusion and equality. They aim to remove the barriers that students may face, and support them to work as independently as possible.
