Chosen Genre • The genre I have

chosen to do is Indie, so my music magazine will be indie. I will take inspiration from popular magazines such as Kerrang, NME, and Q.

Indie• ‘Indie music isnt a difinite style of music, but most indie

bands are influenced by each other causing a similar sound. The sound is melodic, the instruments are simple but well textured. Usually includes a simple but origanal guitar riff, another guitar riff layered to complement it, bass doing the same, simple drum beat (but fitting the song well) either a keyboard or violin or something to bring out the underlying melody, and soft vocals, usually well harmonized. The lyrics are powerfully emotional (but not whiney). They spark emotion but they dont talk about how there lives suck (very tastefull)’

Front CoverBoth magazines have a three colour palette of white black and red. These colours are synonymous with the indie genre.

Both have a big bold mast head which is abbreviated and they both have the colour scheme of red and white.

Both have a main sell like which is in pink. This colour is a stand out from the other colours and the artists name is in pink. This strategy would be used to attract attention and encourage people to buy the magazine.

Both Magazines have cover artists with a straight faced stern expression. The moody angry facial expression is an expected convention with the indie genre.

Both magazines have many sell lines which are left aligned and quite bold. The content of most of them is about bands which gives the reader and insight of what would be inside.

Both of the magazines have a medium close up on the front and the image is the main focus of the front cover

Both of the magazines use a similar font which is quite bold and simple to read

Double Page Spread

Images are left aligned and take up a lot of the page

Both images have a contrast for example blonde hair on black background and black clothing with a white background

Both artists have very stern looks on their faces synonymous with the moody indie image

There is a full page dedicated to both artists as they are the main focus of the article

The layout and font is almost identical. It is clear and easy to read

The first letter of each article is enlarged and in a different colour

Both artists are wearing a black leather looking coat

In the left image Liam has black sunglasses on and in the right one Taylor has black eye shadow, the black could be considered rebellious and ‘grunge’

Contents Page The page is very image heavy and the images are placed in similar pages and take up a lot of the page. This would be used to visually show what's in the magazine

Once again the font is very similar and bold to stand out

Both pages have a black yellow red and white colour scheme

Both have sub titles for example News and Features to categorize everything and make it easier for the reader to find a particular page

Both have advertisements and ways in which you can subscribe to the magazine

Both have quite a lot of images however the page is quite packed and has a lot of text on it also. The text is in quite a small font so more fits on
