CONTINENT• Large landmass on Earth• There are seven continents: Asia, Africa, North
America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia
COUNTRY vs. COUNTRYCOUNTRY• Distinct entity in political
geography• State or federation of
states
COUNTY• Geographical region of a
country• District • Used in some European
and American countries• In others, districts or
regions are used
COAST AND COASTLINECOAST• The edge of the land
where it meets the water• Shore
COASTLINE• Shape, outline or
boundry of the coast• Shoreline
BEACH –BAY – GULF - COVEBEACH• Beach is the immediate
land touching the sea or ocean• Can be sandy or rocky• Exploited in tourism
BAY• Body of sea or ocean
water encircled on one side by land• Big bay is a GULF• Small bay is a COVE

CAPE vs. INLETCAPE• Promontory extending
into body of water, mostly the sea• It is in fact a long, narrow
peninsula
INLET• Sea water extending into
the land• It is in fact long and
narrow bay• Inlets are typical for
Norway where they are called FJORDS

ROAD – LANE – FOOTPATH - TRACK• Road is the largest, used by vehicles• Lane can be: 1. one part of the road or highway 2.
narrow road used only for pedestrians 3. path in the nature• Footpath: 1. narrow, unpaved road in the nature 2.
sidewalk for the pedestrians• Track can be: 1. footpath 2. lane used for sports

MOUNTAIN – HILL - HILLOCK• Mountain is the largest and the highest. If several
mountains are near each other, they form a mountain range• Hill is lower and smaller, if the countryside has many
hills, we can call it hilly• Hillock is a small hill
