Total Physical Response (TPR) It is a teaching technique that mixes speech and action to teach

language through physical activity.

This method has 3 phases:

1. Pre-teaching key words.

2. Listen, watch and do.

3. Listen and do (jumpled order).

For example, a classroom activity would be: "Simon Says“.

Acquisition Vs LearningThere are two independent ways of developingability in second languages.

Acquisition: it is a subconscious process, identicalin most important ways to the process childrenutilize in acquiring their first language. It does notrequire extensive use of conscious grammaticalrules.

Learning: it is a conscious process that consists oflearning grammar rules of a foreign language.

Silent Period It is the interval of time when students feel unable

to communicate orally in a foreign language. It is

better to wait for students to speak naturally when

they feel comfortable before forcing them to talk.

It is the language that a person has learned

from birth or within the critical learning

period, or that a person speaks the best and

so is often the basis for sociolinguistic

identity.

English as a Foreign Language (E.F.L)

It is a term applied for the use or study of

the English language by non-native speakers

in countries where English is generally not

used as a way of communication.

English as a Second Language (E.S.L)

It is a traditional term for the use or study of the English

language by non-native speakers in an English-speaking

environment. That environment may be a country where

English is the mother tongue or has an established role.

English as a Second Language also refers to specialized

approaches to language teaching, designed for those whose

primary language is not English.

DrillsIt is a way of pattern practice which

involves the repetition by learners of teacher

models of restricted amounts of oral

language input.

ApproachIt is a method used by teachers to teach a

PhonicsIt is a method of teaching, reading

and writing the English language that

allows beginning readers to decode

new written words.

Digital LiteracyIt is the ability to understand and use information

in multiple formats from a wide range of sourceswhen it is presented via computers.

The concept of literacy goes beyond just beingable to read; it has always meant the ability to readwith meaning = it implies the ability ofunderstanding the meaning.

Multiple IntelligencesIt is a theory that identifies various types of

intelligence and not only one.

It was developed by Gardner. According to

this theory, students can have many

different learning styles depending on their

kind of intelligence.

Target languageIt is the language that learners are

studying, and also the individual items

of the language that they want to

learn, or the teacher wants them to

learn.
