In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

One thing my music magazine has in common with a real music magazine is the layout, most music magazines have a picture of the headlining artist(s) on the front cover and cover lines going down the side with the name of the

artist/band across the page. Both magazines have a colour theme, I have got theme colours of yellow and black, whereas XXL have the colour scheme of red and white. As you can see the magazines differ in fashion as XXL is American the gangsters wear

box hats to represent rebellious behaviour this connects with Rap/Grime music, however in my music magazine the artists have there

hoods up to represent rebelliousness which also links to Rap/Grime.

The double page spread’s layout Isn’t a common layout in music magazines with the

picture of the person/people in the article in the with the text

boxes around them. Most music magazines use the layout of the picture on the side and the text boxes next to them. In my

magazine I carry on the theme of black and yellow to create a brand theme for my magazine, although I do put the effect of

white stars in the background to make the group name stand out.

Something unique about my magazine is it caters to Grime music especially which makes it unique as there isn’t many magazines that do this, although it still talks about the other genres of music and news of other artists.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My music magazine is aimed at the poorer class of people as it focuses on Grime which is usually listen to rebellious, less fortunate Teenagers. Grime relates to these people as the artists were often one of them as a teenager, Grime comes from the streets and that’s were the social group who i have aimed this magazine for is from. My magazine does imply that all people who listen to Grime is poor, but this isn’t true, Grime is connected to rap as it is fast free styling that is glamorised by making it seem ‘gangsta’, many people enjoy rap, rich, middle class or poor. My magazine does show that it represents the deprived social class by featuring an up and coming group on the front cover.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I would sell my magazine in CD shops such as HMV as people who listen to music will see this magazine and that the audience I'm trying to attract, also I would distribute them in news agents as this is a more convenient way of selling a magazine. I will have advertisement to promote this product. The advertisement will be billboards and TV commercial to maximise the promoting of this product. The publisher that i would consider sing is IPC media. The reason for this i that they are on of the main media institutions in media in the UK. IPC media is a very well known publisher, 26 million adults in the UK read magazines made by them. Because IPC is such a big media institutions they must get cheaper advertisement and printings as they produce in bulk.

Who would be the audience for your media product

My audience would be young teenagers, most likely to be ‘rudeboys’ who are interested in Grime, although since this does feature other artists it can vary from people to people.

How did you attract/address your audience

I addressed and attracted my audience by featuring current (are still lively artists releasing music) rap/hip-hop artists in the magazine features and by my fictional rap group “MoveQuick” reflecting Grime music.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of contrasting this product

When constructing this product I used, Photoshop and blogger. I have learnt after using them that you can make any picture look good as the picture can be completely manipulated in post-production, if the lighting was to dark when you took the picture there is no longer the need to go take another one with a brighter light you are able to change the brightness on the computer of the picture. While using photoshop my skills have developed through learning how to manipulate pictures and graphic when I first started using the software id simply put a picture on the page, a square and some text on the page, this can be seen through the first task. Now this couldn't be any further, each piece whether it be the contents or front cover there are at least 10 layers where things such as the brightness, fill, colours, contrast, and cropping. Using blogger has helped me plan and organise my music magazine perfectly, everything is in order and presented nearly so is easy to read, I have learnt how to use online programmes to my advantage I used to find them confusing but they've helped me manage my time better for being able to access all my planning work from anywhere possible.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from

it to the full product

I felt i have learnt how to use Photoshop better, adding affects, cropping ETC. I also have a better understanding of music magazines and their layouts.
