What is it used for?• Multi-source database providing access to full-
text of nursing and allied health journals, plus a wide variety of personal health information sources that offer reliable health information to researchers, including nursing and allied health students. The material contained in this database is intended for informational purposes only.
• Data Range: 1980-2009• Health Reference Center Academic with
6,506,620 articles updated as recently as October 29, 2009.
First Things First!• Go to:
– http://mel.org – Select Mel Databases– Scroll down
• Select Health Reference Center Academic
*note if accessing from home, you will need to contact your library for the password!

Let’s Search!• Search for ‘Swine Flu and
Elementary Schools’• You will be directed to a page that
has several resources to look into• Academic Journals, Magazines,
Books, News, and Multimedia are available!
Your Screen will Appear like this!
Find a Resource!• Select the Multimedia tab• The articles tell you the title, who
published it, and minor details.• Locate the audio file from ‘All
Things Considered’ April 29, 2009 (towards bottom of page)
• Select File

After Selecting…• Search through the audio file for
information on ‘Swine Flu and Elementary Schools
• Pop Quiz!!– What did President Barack Obama say
we should do to stay as safe as possible???
Answer….• President Barack Obama: It's also the
recommendation of our public health officials that schools with confirmed or suspected cases of H1N1 should strongly consider temporarily closing so that we can be as safe as possible.
Another Way: Subject Search• Select the ‘Browse Subjects’ orange tab• Type Swine Flu in the search box• If it suggests a more specific wording choose
that• Select Swine Influenza
– Click on the plus button– This shows you topics that involve the
Swine Influenza
Your Page Appears as Follows
Subject Search (cont.) • Select Health Aspects
– This will lead you to information surrounding that specific aspect of the Swine Influenza
