HOW HAVE WE USED ICT IN OUR CLASSROOM

WRITING We have visited a number of websites that have been

valuable in our development. We have read and analyzed exemplars prior to our own

writings. All of the class have been highly engaged as it is highly

visual and interactive for the children with great graphics which they have created or imported from clip art to enhance their written work.

Their stories will be readily available for the children to continually edit and improve until the end product is ready.

Children can share their work easily with each other. Children’s work can be sent home via e-mail for parental

viewing.

Character Analysis by Students Bobby Joe from Deep in the Cave

By Ratana 03/06/09

He is described by cool kids as a dork, but his friends think of him as a leader. He is 12 years old and about a metre and a half, He’s calm kind and very considerate. Not many people enjoy his company. He wears a t-shirt, glasses, and overalls. He’s good at doing his homework and schoolwork and he is quite good at playing computer game. He never talks a lot because he’s quite shy.

Spartan 117 By Christian 03/06/09

He’s the last one of his style and stronger than the others, he is also called master chief. He wears green armour and has an orange visor. No one knows what he looks like because under his helmet is another helmet but I still think he’s got a pimple on his face. He can wield every weapon except a type of fuel rod gun. He has a shield so no one can kill him straight away by a head shot. He finds skulls that have strange powers in them. He kills the covenant except for the elites which is the human’s ally. Overall, he’s the best guy on the human’s side.

HOW WE HAVE USED THE DIGITAL AND VIDEO CAMERAS?

Each child has been involved in creating a photo story of things that they find interesting around the school using the varying skills required like close ups, shadows, centering etc.

Children have been given the job of taking and editing sports photos of any sports activity being held on or off our school grounds which will be publicly displayed.

Children have been expected to take, edit and produce a comic strip or photo-story about their school camp to Ruapehu.

The digital Camera has been worked with by some children to take action shots at sport and video parts or all of a school performance. Critiquing follows about closeness, lighting and any other factor that makes the shots taken good or bad.

Where Have the Trees Gone?

-One reporters initial views of the school clearance and beautification programme.

On the 3/09/09 something strange happened, the trees had gone. Where did they go? Who has taken them or have they just disappeared?

So why did Mrs Ayerst get them cut down, do you think that they have a right to do that? She may be the Principal but why did she do that?

I think that they should have been cut back instead of taking them out, it looked nice.

Terongo, Room 6 thinks that having the trees removed makes the area look much larger and tidier and he is a little sad because he can not kiss his girl friend under the trees”.

The trees that are there should be left alone because they are planted there for a reason

So leave them alone and don’t cut them down

Mr Cappie Has New Shoes...

Available at the Warehouse For years Mr Cappie has suffered with his old, crusty shoes in till one

day he taught the class known as Room 12. Like every Friday the class was gifted with the amazing teaching skills of Mr Cappie but Mr

Ayerst had requested for his class to fitness with jump ropes. We reporters bet Mr Cappie $50 bucks from Eda Chips that he could not jump backwards on one foot. Mr Cappie being the little up himself

man that he is, took on our challenge. He skipped about 5 times before he fatally slipped and landed on the edge of his shoe, skidding and ripping a hole in the side of his shoe. Mr Cappie raised his head

and screamed the word. “Nooooooooooo!” The next day at school, Monday, Mr Cappie had new shoes! Oh my

Frankin Gerard!

Energy transfer through balls What you'll need:

A large, heavy ball such as a basketball or soccer ball

A smaller, light ball such as a tennis ball or inflatable rubber ball

I nstructions:

1. Make sure you're outside with plenty of room.

Carefully put the tennis ball on top of the basketball, holding one hand under the

basketball and the other on top of the tennis ball.

Let go of both the balls at exactly the same time and observe what happens.

What's happening?

If you dropped the balls at the same time, the tennis ball should bounce off the basketball

and fly high into the air. The two balls hit each other just after they hit the ground, a lot of the

kinetic energy in the larger basketball is transferred through to the smaller tennis ball, sending

it high into the air.

While you held the balls in the air before dropping them they had another type of energy called

'potential energy', the balls gained this through the effort it took you to lift the balls up, it is

interesting to note that energy is never lost, only transferred into other kinds of energy.

REFLECTION OF OUTCOMES FOR ICT INTEGRATION INTO

CURRICULUM There has been greater level of engagement from all children

across the curriculum Children’s knowledge of how to use simple computer

programmes has increased Children have enjoyed seeing the use of their own work for

teaching purposes The children are developing a greater independence on the

computer There is an increase of word knowledge and sentences

constructions due to use of online programmes. There has been an increase in speed and accuracy of knowledge

skills in Maths, due to the constant use of online programmes. NEXT STEPS: Increase use of thinking questions in regards to topics covered. Develop the skill of discernment when searching for information
