Considerations

• Connect the theme to the faculty speaker at Opening Convocation in Sept. Get the theme out in front of everyone from the start. Do something dramatic with lighting at Opening Convocation. (e.g., fireworks, ritual of floating paper boats with candles on lake, etc.)

• Topics for Intermester? New courses? Community meeting topics?

• Outdoor activities at night when we can be outdoors. Stars? Moon?

• Apply to all the divisions: arts and academics; how does each discipline teach light? how is light used for each of the arts? Integrate into curriculum.

• All school: one text or essay or book — something we all read? One movie we all see?

• Festivals/Rituals—solstice, diwali, festival of lanterns, loi krathong, fireworks…

• Issues of dark-vs-light

• Issues of blindness, being blinded, truth

• What is the metaphor, culture, substance of light?

• MPA: 10th year celebration (magic lantern)

• Marketing: everyone wear white, e.g., dinner on the lawn

• Comp. Arts: social justice; shedding light and connecting to unlikely topics that people shy away from e.g., water, climate change, mobility, literacy, race

• Connect with consortium schools for a simultaneous activity

• Invited speakers, presenters?
