Introduction to the Site:

30m and is located at the lake in

Taylor’s University Lakeside

Campus. The lake measures 5.5

acres and is man made with the

construction of the Lakeside

Campus.

Site Analysis:

Accessibility:

The boardwalk is usually not utilised because it is hard to reach and does not lead to any other

places. Building the bridge will help to draw people in as it will lead to the commercial block.

Page 4: ICI Final Project - A New Bridge Proposal

Walkability:

Before Construction

Students from Block C, D and E have to take a long

walk to reach the commercial block. To get to the

opposite, the average time needed is 5 minutes.

After Construction:

Students can now access the boardwalk

and reach the commercial block via the

bridge. This will shorten the time needed

to around 1 minute

Suggestion and Proposal:

It is hereby proposed to build a food and beverage bridge from Block E of

Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus to Commercial Block.

The bridge is a 30m long suspension bridge, with 6m width at the narrow point and

9m width at the bulging point. There are 8 suspension points on the bridge as

indicated in the following drawing.

The bridge is split into 3 segments, and each segment has a 6m x 4m capsule that can

be rented as cafes. There are also 3m x 1m tables accompanied by 6 chairs between

each capsule. Each capsule will be fitted with 2 sliding doors to prevent space

wastage by the door arc.

The main material for this bridge is tempered glass. 22mm glass is used for the

flooring, 1.2m high 12mm glass is used for the steel railing, 8mm glass is used for the

capsule wall, and 12.38mm laminated glass is used for the capsule canopy.

This bridge will serve as a new walkway for students and staffs in the university, and

also provide a new location for food and beverage.
