In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products.
I believe my media product did challenge some of the conventions of a cover page.
I used the same style of masthead of Kerrang!. But in challenging that I chose my masthead to be a edgier bold and black font.
Also influenced by Kerrang! , I decided to feature several “poster specials” down the side of my magazine. This used the convention of enticing the reader.
I also challenged the convention of using sell lines. Like this issue of Kerrang! I have put sell lines around the main image/feature of the media product.
The usage of strap lines also inspired me to feature these on my cover. Such words as “Plus” and “free”. I believed I have achieved this well on my cover.
I believed my media product challenged some conventions of a an contents page.
I was inspired heavily by the layout of the rocksound contents page. Therefore I used a similar of style of featuring a person heavily in the page.
The only convention of a typical contents page I challenged was the font and size. I decided to create large texts in a bold black font so the reader would know what features are in my media product.
I also used the quote technique which is featured in the Rocksound contents page. This I believed would attract the reader and make it more personal to them.
I believe my double page spread did use conventions of a real media products
One convention which inspired me heavily from the Kerrang! Double page spread , was the type of images they featured. They featured images of live performances and of the recording process. Therefore the images I used were based on theme on “ Zaid Elgamhi” recording in the studio
Also another convention which influenced my double page spread was how Kerrang! featured the words “ World Exclusive”. This makes the feature feel unique and personal to the reader , which I really liked the idea of.
