Informatics
Informatics is the science of information.
the application of information technology to the arts, sciences, and professions.
the interdisciplinary study of the design, application, use and impact of information technology. The discipline of informatics is based on the recognition that the design of this technology is not solely a technical matter, but must focus on the relationship between the technology and its use in real-world settings.
Informatics has many aspects, and encompasses a number of existing academic disciplines - Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Science and Computer Science.
Cognitive Science concerns the study of natural systems;
Computer Science concerns the analysis of computation, and design of computing systems;
Artificial Intelligence plays a connecting role, designing systems which emulate those found in nature.
Information Systems
is the study of complementary networks of hardware and software that people and organizations use to collect, filter, process, create and distribute data.
Information Systems encompasses a variety of disciplines such as: the analysis and design of systems, computer networking, information security, database management and decision support systems
An information system (IS) refers to a collection of multiple pieces of equipment involved in the dissemination of information. Hardware, software, computer system connections and information, information system users, and the system’s housing are all part of an IS.
A Computer(-Based) Information System is essentially an IS using computer technology to carry out some or all of its planned tasks.
The first four components (hardware, software, database and network) make up what is known as the information technology platform. Information technology workers could then use these components to create information systems that watch over safety measures, risk and the management of data. These actions are known as information technology services
Importance of Information System in Organizations
Communication
• Email • Video
Conference• File Sharing• Texting
Operations
• gain a cost advantage
• better customer service
• insights about what customers like
• let you stock or produce items that are selling well
• streamline your operations
Decisions
• delivering all the information you need
• by modeling the results of your decisions
• to run different scenario
Records
• stores documents and revision histories,
• communication records and operational data
• Can be used to organize data
• Cost estimate and forecasts

Information Systems in
Organizations
Information systems: This type of ICT system is focused on managing data and information. For examples: these are a sports club membership system or a supermarket stock system.
Control systems: These ICT systems are mostly part to control machines. They use input, process and output, but the output may be moving a robot arm to weld a car chassis rather than information.
Communications systems: The output of these ICT systems is the successful transport of data from one place to another.
