The law

Advertising standards authority

• Is UK regulating body that affects all types of media. ASA put out the advertising codes which are to be followed to ensure adds are honest and not misleading in any way. ASA also deals with any complaints that have been made.

• Before an advert is published on TV or Radio all the claims that the advert makes must have demonstrated evidence for why the claims are true. This prevents misleading for costumers which means that all costumers can feel safer buying the product. Before the adverts are aired they must comply with the rules of UK Code of Broadcast Advertising.

• Before TV adverts can be shown on TV they have to be watched and approved by Clearcast

• Radio adverts must also be approved before them being aired by The radio advertising of clearance centre.

The Law: Regulations that affect advertising

• The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations protects the consumer from the advertising making misleading claims, leaving out important information and aggression.

• This helps me understand what I would have to do in order for my advert to be shown. The law and SAS helps the consumer to stay protected from any misleading claims about a product. The SAS and the government make it clear what is acceptable and what isn’t therefore this is what I have to follow too to make my advert true and realistic to also protect the costumers/consumers.

• I am only doing this for my media coursework therefore I am not actually going to air this but it is important that I know the institution side of this and the process of what real adverts must contain etc.
