NME.

NME also known as New Musical Express, was created by Theodore Ingham. NME is

a British music journalism publication which is produced weekly and has been

running since march 1952.

The magazine started off as a music newspaper however moved on to become a

magazine format in the 1980’s – 90’s. It officially became a magazine format in 1998

being known for rock, alternative and indie music. It was the first British newspaper

to include a singles chart in the 14th November 1952 edition.

The magazine was first known as “Accordion Times and Musical Express” however

after the closure of this magazine it was bought by a London music promoter

Maurice Kinn. Then the magazine was re-published in march 1952.

NME.com

NME created a website in 1996 to keep up with technology recently it has over 7

million uses per month however since august 2012 numbers have been declining.

The website has received multiple awards for online magazine of the year. In October

2011 the site celebrated its 15th birthday by publishing a list of the 150 best tracks of

NME.COM’s lifetime.

NME awards is an awards show held every year to celebrate the best new music of

the past year. The nominations and winners were decided by the readers of the

magazine.

Top of the pops magazine has been running since February 1995, this filled the gap in

the BBC magazine portfolio where a magazine called NUMBER ONE MAGAZINE used

to be.

Top of the pops magazine was moulded around the design of Q magazine and then

later changed its design to appeal to teenagers so that the magazine could compete

with other popular teen magazines such as; SMASH HITS and BIG.

The BBC stated the magazine would continue publication despite the end of the well-

loved television series and the magazine is still running today.

Top of the pops is also a British music chart television programme made by the BBC

which was broadcast once a week between 1st January 1964 and 30th July 2006. The

show moved from BBC 1 to BBC 2 in 2005 the reason not known. TOTP was also sold

to several foreign broadcasters in the form of a franchise package, at one point the

show was broadcast to nearly 100 countries.
