• to present the results of the 1st FORUM CARPATICUM (open meeting of the S4C)

• to support scientifically actions leading towards sustainability in the Carpathian region
• to increase the visibility of the Carpathian region in the global change research agendas
• to link research and practice in the field of coupled human-environmental systems in mountain regions
• the Forum Carpaticum is an open meeting of the S4C network

Forum Carpaticum: conclussions
• pan-Carpathian and/or meta-studies:

• assess past changes in the region and its drivers (land use, biodiversity, climate …)
• construct scenarios for different future climate, socio-economic and land use changes
• connect scientific, practical and traditional knowledge about ecological, social, economic and policy systems
• apply a system approach including different issues relevant to the sustainable development of the Carpathians
• bridge the gap between scientists, stakeholders, and decision-makers
• identification and harmonization of data
