Stanza• Stanza is a unit of lines in a poem. (You may

think of it as a verse)• In the 2nd stanza Grace Nichols talks more about

the people and the animals on the island, ‘wild seabirds

and fisherman pushing out to sea’By then carrying on to say that the ‘sun surfacing

defiantlyFrom the eastOf his small emerald island He always comes back groggily groggily’This implies that wherever island man is he will

always picture the sun rise over his emerald island in his head and the noises of wild seabirds and fishermen.
