Dropped Ball

The referee drops the ball at the place where it waslocated when play was stopped.*

The ball may not be played until it touches the ground.

If the ball leaves the field directly, without touching anyplayer, the ball must be dropped again.

Any player may challenge for the ball (including thegoalkeeper)

There is no minimum or maximum number of playersrequired to take part in a dropped ball.

The referee cannot decide who may or not take part ina dropped ball.

Special Circumstances

A free kick given to defenders inside their own goalarea may be taken from any point within the goal area.

An indirect free kick awarded to the attacking team in itsopponents’ goal area is taken from the goal area line parallelto the goal line at the point nearest to where theinfringement occurred.
