Digital Storytelling

• Great way to have students retell the story in their own way.

• Makes students have a good understanding of the story in order to create a digital story.

• Allows students to create (highest level of Bloom’s)

Blogs

• Use blog to link to online articles.– Have a list of questions that the students have to respond to that

pertain to the story.

– To allow for choices, can link to several stories and let students choose which one fits their interests. Great idea for incorporating multiple intelligences.

• Create a character journal.• Students would write as if they were the main character in the book. Other students can respond to their post as if they were another character or they could ask the character questions.

• Think aloud blogs•Students can use a blog to respond to questions about a book they are reading or they can use the blog to pose questions about the book.

Blogs

• Creative writing responses.– Post a story starter and have students add a paragraph or several

sentences. Each student’s writing would develop the story more and when completed, would make a complete story.

• Literature Circle Responses/Guided Reading Groups

• Pose questions that the groups would respond to.

• Digital Reading Portfolio• Students would use a blog to create a digital portfolio of the various projects they do online. Most blogs will let you both link and embed objects in the blog.

• Wikis are a great way to let everyone contribute to create a final project.

• It allows students to all contribute by allowing them all access.

• Allows students to evaluate books and teaches them how to talk about books.

• Requires students to understand the book well enough to create with it.

• Uses those higher order thinking skills.

Things to remember when creating with digital tools.

• Always have a plan• Have everything written down before students begin to create.• An example would help students to know what to do but sometimes students will try to create something exactly like yours.• Rubrics work well for these types of projects.
