REFRAMING CREATIVITY PROJECT
ADDING VALUE TO A LOAF OF BREAD
For Tina Seelig’sCrash Course on Creativity
Assignment #3/Team Assignment #1
From “Lateforming Team”Active Members: Joyce Reynolds-Sinclair
with inspiration and help from fellow course member Hayley Solich
Imagination, Focus & Result
Create a durable kitchen counter container to hold handy cut herbs from my garden originally I thought to hollow out a
loaf and plant Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme in dirt so it would grow.. and call it a Sustainable Simon & Garfunkel
but I was reluctant to deal with mixing dirt & bread, so in conversation with a friend, I realized what I would find very useful is a creative container into which I could keep handy fresh cut herbs in water
Actually, I like what emerged so much I now I plan to use my herb cutting loaf as a lovely centerpiece for a special dinner with creative friends
Starting Point and Materials
• Ovalish loaf of garlic bread ($5 for two... we ate the second one)
• Knife to make and scoop center cut
• Soft-gel and brush for lacquering to waterproof ($16)
• Plastic (saved and recycled from covering frozen salmon as “belt and suspenders” for protecting bread from water to keep hers fresh from leaking or leaching thru the lacquer
• Scissors to snip herbs from garden...temporarily held in glass cup
• Tin foil to protect my kitchen counter
Project HistorySunday:
Proposed idea to team Got materials, cut-out center of bread , and dried in oven
overnight to remove moisture
Monday : 1. Recontacted team (to no avail) so perused site for people/ideas and
saw Hayley Solich’s posted ideas about transforming bread by lacquering
2. Coated bread with several layers of clear gel..semi-gloss, drying several hours between coats
Tuesday:3. Invited Hayley to join my project ... She emailed back immediately
with suggestions and offer to help... This gave me the motivation to keep going!!!
4. Glued plastic in hole to hold the water (belt and suspenders since lacquering should be sufficient, but might not over time)
5. Cut the herbs from my garden, created the prototype, & took pictures
Wednesday: 6. Uploaded photos & created this ppt7. Sent to Hayley for feedback before submitting
